Transcendent Monarch

At one point it was normal. We lived out our lives doing the same old same old. It was all fine... until it wasn't... A couple of months ago monsters we knew from a new video game called Legacy started to invade our world, reaping lives and destroying everything around us. At first, we figured the reports were fake but we quickly realized it wasn't when a boss monster most people knew appeared and erased a city from the map. Luckily we weren't as helpless as we originally thought. We, the players, were able to bring our game strength to the real world along with our companions, historic figures both fictional and not, to defend our planet. As things got worse with stronger monsters invading the real world we players split into two groups, the defenders and the players, where we took turns playing Legacy and defending our world to not lose against the growing strength of the invading monsters. It was working for a couple of months but then the strength of the monsters grew exponentially and we were unable to keep up. We lost city after city, bastion after bastion, and many beloved and powerful players lost their lives fighting for our world. When we were finally pushed to the brink and were at the last bastion of humanity, when the world needed something to rally behind, a banner flew high on the ramparts, and a single person was at the forefront of the real and game worlds, bringing about a tale that would be told eternally, a story about the leader of two worlds who brought an end to the monster invasion, The Transcendent Monarch, Zero. ___________________________________ Astral here, just writing this for fun since I've always wanted to cover this topic but never got around to bringing it to life. Now I have a chance I think so while it may be slow and pass the WPC deadline until things start taking shape I want to put ideas to paper more, unlike my other failed drafts. Leave a review and/or comment on chapters, I read it all.

I'm Getting Banned...

"Gilgamesh…"

"That is my name, do be sure not to wear it out…"

"Wow! This is freaking awesome!" Marcus said as he pumped his fist in excitement, pausing the monologue Gilgamesh was preparing to go on.

"I have so many questions but you are my companion right?" He asked as he looked towards the seated king who held a stunned expression on his face before laughing to himself at the antics of the young man.

"If you want to call me that then sure, honestly I've obtained all the information I needed about this world after I appeared so I understand why you have called for me," Gilgamesh said as rested his head on the flat of his right palm while crossing one leg over the other.

"Your Excellency, Welcome to this humble AI's world. I hope this recreation didn't disturb you." Rudy interjected nervously as a bubble once again encased it allowing it to float at eye level to Marcus.

"It's fine, I was growing bored of sitting around, this could prove an interesting endeavor so I've decided not to immediately eradicate this world." He replied smugly, thoughts racing through his mind wondering what would become of this stint.

"Hey, Gilgamesh, You say that but are you truly that strong?" Marcus questioned, his face full of curiosity.

"Why not view my status page? I'm sure you'll understand just how powerful this King is." He retorted with a devilish smile.

"You are unable to view the status page of yourself and your… companion unit… until you leave this area. I advise you to finish the character creation and begin your journey." Commented Rudy, much to the slight dismay of Marcus. He really wanted to check the status page of Gilgamesh as his entrance was undoubtedly the flashiest in the entire game world, dwarfing that of Divine units who descended from the sky in a truly divine fashion."

"If that is the case then finish up young man, I will play my role for a while and decide later how to proceed, and hopefully you don't disappoint," Gilgamesh said as he slowly stood up, the invisible floor cracking under his might as he stepped towards his newbie summoner.

Though he was unwilling to let such a dangerous individual roam the game, Rudy decided to continue the character creation to get back to doing its job and stabilize any issues that appeared with Gilgamesh's arrival.

..

..

With the rest of the character creation finishing with a simple decision of a name and a selection of which village of 100 to start at, the name Zero was decided after some time and the village was number 25, with the closest town being Whiteclaw.

If he was being honest, Marcus was unsure of how to treat Gilgamesh, he was a king of legend but he knew he didn't want to act like a servant when he was the person who summoned the other, as a companion. Seeing this Gilgamesh decided to come to a common ground with the young man who withstood his impromptu test of will earlier.

Marcus would not have to address him formally, nor would he be able to utilize the full power of Gilgamesh until he passed his trials. These trials will be taken in tandem with his rank-up trial, which also doubles as his class-up trial. These trials are at major leveling points, 20, 50, 100, and 200 as explained by Rudy when asked.

In return, Gilgamesh will listen to the requests of Marcus while owing 5 favors to use at any point in the future. Marcus agreed to do those favors as long as they didn't cross his bottom line, causing both gentlemen to smile happily at their prospective futures.

..

.

Appearing with a flash of light, Marcus and Gilgamesh appeared on top of a stone podium with thousands of players around them. Their location is the starter village of Mot numbered 25 out of the 100.

"Alright, according to the forums we should just take a series of quests from the village chief for now. If we do that we can eventually get enough levels for the newbie dungeon at level 10." Marcus thought as the duo walked toward a golden quest marker which was shaped like an outlined diamond.

On the dirt and pebble-lined streets new players and their companions walked around with their names and levels showing. Status pages were unviewable without an investigation ability or until the person in question decided to share it with someone intentionally.

Though he attracted a lot of attention with Gilgamesh walking beside him they continued up to an old man hunched over a cane surrounded by players. He wore white and blue clothes that were extremely well-kept while his shaggy white hair was tied behind him in a ponytail.

[Greetings young traveler and esteemed sir] The man hurriedly said after noticing the duo stop behind the small crowd. His greetings parted the crowd as players made way for the man who was well-known as the village chief and simply stood around issuing the same quest to everyone.

"You have good eyes, geezer," Gilgamesh said as he crossed his arms and gave a side glance to Marcus.

"I have met with some nobles in my lifetime so I can recognize anyone with an air of nobility around them. Anyways, how can I help you both?" The old man said with a small smile as he straightened his back a little.

"We are wondering if you had any issues plaguing the village that needed to be resolved," Marcus responded, wanting to kickstart a quest after a standard dialogue.

"There are many issues plaguing this village but I don't believe this esteemed sir and yourself would want to burden yourself with trivial matters. Hmmmm…" The man said as he closed his eyes and pondered. The surrounding players were shocked as they received their completion rewards for quests they were turning in or were given another standard quest to complete.

Hearing the growing crowd around them, the old man introduced himself as Hershel before inviting the duo into his home to inform them of something he thought of.

Accepting, the two were led into a small cozy home, decorated nicely as tea was made for them by Hershel. Finding a seat on a chair, Marcus looked at Gilgamesh to see his throne had appeared again in an open spot in the living room with him seated on it in a carefree manner.

Before Hershel returned minutes later, Marcus familiarized himself with the menu and the status pages of himself and Gilgamesh, leaving him utterly dumbfounded at the ridiculous stats he had at level 1.
