With past lives to uncover and companions that should not walk any world. Will he lose himself to the mist or become what he has forgotten? both roads lead to doom, but whose? (Hi, the author here. I went on a year-long hiatus and am back. this is the better-edited version of this book posted here cause the new chapters are better structured and the old needed editing. I will post the new chapters on whichever platform has the most readers, though I am hoping it is this one because the edits are here. Enjoy.)

Leaving the tower (5)

"Oh, Such a brilliant idea?! Trying to leave the tower is still not that easy though," Baskii said completely amused by the turn of events. How was it possible for him to let this bunch leave as they like? Sen Ke at this moment was experiencing the full brunt of the top step. His mind felt oppressed and tied in place, his blood churned, as a weight sat on his daitan, refusing for him to move. But he did not care. This was the last step. If he survived this, he was out of here. At least the tower master did not bring him back to the steps he had just left. No, he must survive this. He had a premonition that the best way off the staircase was to leave the normal way. This bunch that had suddenly appeared were sure to kill everyone in this tower's last level before they left.

Ku Jian at this moment was attacking these barriers that had been stacked upon each other, locking her in. One of them was a space seal and oxygen would run out quickly from inside. She needed to leave. A part of her was still worried about Ed on his staircase, but she at this moment was trying to stay alive, so she put all her attention on this mission.

An odd occurrence at this moment gripped Ed's staircase. Sharp wild wind from Ed at this moment, carrying a hint of his internal energy whirled and whipped around the stairs. This wind sliced through the staircase and slashed through the tower. At this, the cultivators on Ed's stairs made to retreat.

"The Principle of wind, Ed, you never cease to amaze me," Nti Anem said. He saw that the wind cutting through the air killed people in just one slash and had a bad premonition.

"Well, it's time for me to leave," he said, and his figure dashed to the last step of his staircase and walked out of the tower. Those on his staircase were so shocked, it was only then it occurred to them that the staircase had been free from tests, as such all these while, they could have left. By the time they made to move, Baskii had locked the staircase. Only then did they understand why Nti Anem left in a hurry. The sharp wind whirling through the middle staircase killing from just a scratch was destroying the entire level. It was cutting through the entire middle staircase and even tearing open the barrier between the three staircases and crossing over. They paled at the sight. This was bad.

"Tower Master, unlock the tower so we might leave!" people started to scream.

"Only those who finish the test can leave," Baskii's voice rang through the air.

"Then let us descend the stairs!" a person protested after making to descend the stairs before him, but could not step down.

"Boy, stop what you are doing!"Baskii seemed panicked as well but still did not let the rest leave. From what he saw, this boy might destroy the entire level and it would take him a while to rebuild. Ed saw that the Win Arrow had completely dissolved into him, leaving behind an empty hole in his midsection. He circulated his energy to stop the bleeding and turned to look at the limp young master fu on the ground. He knew that his energy might kill this boy, so he placed him in his space bag and made to leave the tower. Step by step, he moved up the step, cultivators, dropping like flies. The principles of the steps did not seem to bother him at all as he made his way up.

On the last staircase, Ku Jian felt the barrier get attacked from the outside. Whatever it was, it was weakening it. She looked towards Ed's staircase and found that he was leaving the tower and panicked. Frantically, she attacked the barrier with all she had and it cracked. The crack got bigger at every hit from her punch, making those on her steps panic greatly. It did not allow the wind from the middle staircase to reach them. They were dropping dead like flies.

Sen Ke felt fear like no other rush through his skull. He looked at the situation down and glanced at the rankless leaving. Without care for the consequences, he willed his body to move. He could feel his energy veins ripping by his actions, but if he waited one more second, he would die.

He glanced back just as the rankless left the tower and saw that Ku Jian had broken out of the barrier. No, she had not. She carried the barrier with her and started moving up the stairs. She was approaching him, causing his heart to race erratically. Willing all his strength, he moved his right leg and stepped on the exit, then tore all his might to get his second leg out. He could not help but glance back at Ku Jian powering towards him. Though her movement seemed stiff, she was completely uncaring, her eyes only on the exit.

What he did not know was that not only he was scared at the moment, but she was scared too. She saw Ed's back moving farther away without glancing back at the exit and fear pounded through her veins. She may not make it.

The fear only motivated her, causing her to power through the steps without noticing the restrictions woven into it, with a barrier over her head protecting her from the sharp wind. Sen Ke took the final stop just as she reached, rushing away the moment he stepped out of the tower.

Ku Jian looked full eyes in panic as the tower exit door closed. She was late.
