Bad Timing - I

"... Is this where you've been all this time?"

The Caller's voice sounded the most familiar to Kai.

Subsequently, he and Jake turned their heads right ahead and Kai was more amazed than pleased to realise who the person approaching them was.

Larry.

His charming footsteps and shining dark orbs were always what would give him away.

'What is he doing here?' Kai mused. 'Now is pretty bad timing.' He cringed as Larry stopped in front of him, smiling all too cheerily.

Why, though?

At the start, Kai drifted his lips apart in order to be the first one to speak.

"Why are you here?" He asked. The irritation behind those words did not go unnoticed to Jake whose Azure eyes promptly steered towards him.

Larry smiled more broadly and said. "For real though, you're a hard man to find bro."

The look he soon observed on Kai's face prompted him to talk. Fast.

"Oh alright. I've been looking all over for you. Didn't mum call you by the way?"

"She did and we both know why she chose to dial me in the first place."

"Yeah. That. Well you see, mum is." Larry stopped and turned sideways noticing Jake and his dog. He fake grinned at the pretty boy and then said. "Hum. Hey, Kai's friend. New friend?" He didn't sound so sure. "Can you let us have a minute to talk? And I mean you and your," He looked at Jason from top to bottom and vice versa before mouthing the word. "Dog."

Larry's tone was not nice and Jake could sense it. Jason also as he barked loudly at said boy.

"C'mon boy… " Jake restricted his dog. He then flipped a side turn toward the just sarcastic-tongued and ill-mannered rich kid. "That was very rude but I was already headed out anyway. See you around, Kaiden."

As he turned from looking at both brothers to begin his walk away, Jake silently mumbled.

… "Or not."

Larry's condescending look at both him and his dog already told Jake how becoming friends with Kai meant trouble. No one in their right senses wanted that.

"Jason, we should."

Jake's dog obeyed his command and as they ambled off the spot shortly after, Jake teased Jason as they chatted and laughed freely. They were both having a fun time as they trotted by and Kai was all eyes on them, ogling at their cuteness. The fact that Jake seemed to him ever free-spirited and totally cheerful to even be mad, amused him.

'Who exactly is this boy?' Kai pondered. His eyes glaring at their track.

After standing puzzled for a lengthy minute, Larry decided to speak. "Now what in god's name is his problem? Huh? What did I say wrong?"

His complaint swiftly grabbed his brother's attention and as Kai settled his burning brown irises on him, Larry got the hidden warning behind his gaze.

This can't be good!

"Are you seriously asking me what you said wrong?!! You did everything wrong!" Kai ranted. His anger towering in his irises. His skin flushed red and his cheeks burned hot.

"You could have been nicer to him but no. You chose instead to behave like some brat!"

"Hey!" Larry objected, "How was I being a brat just now?"

He knew he'd not glanced at the boy and his dog with the slightest hint of kindness in his eyes nor had his gestures been the ideal kind but he was always this way. When did that ever become a problem to Kai?

"Look bro, there's really no need for drama. I nicely asked him out so we could talk. You and me. We should be doing that and not you beating your nerves all up over some strange redhead and his dog!"

When Kai noticed how he was probably overreacting, he mellowed on his rage and decided on another line of talk.

"What did you come in search of me for?"

He settled his nerves on asking this even though Larry's untimely intervention was the reason he'd missed out on getting Jake's number. The mere thought of this riled him up but he couldn't tell Larry that.

"Do you need me to repeat my words just now?"

"No."

"Then speak up. I still have 5 minutes to go an extra lap."

"Not that." Larry said. He buried both hands in his pant pockets and creased his brows for some serious talk. "You know what's up? I'd like to know why you suddenly got so nerved up because of my behaviour towards that boy. Now that's new."

"You know what else is new?" Kai clicked his tongue to the side of his mouth.

"No I don't. Tell me."

"What's new is that you, mum and every frickin one else out there should learn to stay outta my fucking business!"

"Woah! Easy on the nerves bro."

Kai said nothing else. His chest heaving up and down in a ragged beating caused him to grow uncomfortable.

"Know what? Go deal with yourself." That being said, Kai jet off from there in a hurry. He left Larry behind. The latter may have shouted or attempted to do so but Kai had quickly plugged in his earphones as he sprinted further away from him.

He ran with so much grit, determined to burn the negative energy out all the while thinking about Jake and his dog, Jason.

¶¶¶

After he'd raced through a couple more blocks in 5 minutes tops, his pants intensified and Kai made a mental note to slow down a bit. So, he did.

He posed both hands on his waist before bending his head to the ground. His tiredness upset him. He soon pulled himself back up.

"Bloody hell! Why am I so freaking angry?"

He then began to ponder on how his little beef with Larry had caused him not to listen to his reason for finding him out in the first place.

Kai panted, some more.
