Camellia entered the room with Edgar behind her. She made the bed and was ready to sleep. Edgar took off his shoes and mounted the bed to sleep when Camellia shouted at him.
"What do you think you're doing? You actually think we are going to share the same bed? Sharing a room with you isn't enough?"
"It's not that, Cam. I'm sorry, I'll sleep on the ground"
Edgar was expecting Camellia to offer him a blanket and pillow to sleep but she just turned to the wake and was soon deep asleep. Edgar shook his head, amidst mixed feelings. The love he had for her immediately reduced.
"This would be the last time I'll be begging for you love, Cam but always remember that I'll always love you" he said and laid on the bare ground to sleep.
The next morning was a long night for Edgar as he was so uncomfortable sleeping on the floor, it was his first time. He got up, looked at Camellia who was still sleeping soundly. He smiled faintly at her beauty as she turned over. He brought out his phone from his pocket and looked at the time, it was 6:30am. Though, it was still early, Edgar would do everything and anything to avoid Camellia. He wanted to kiss her cheek but was scared she was going to wake up and probably skin him alive.
He went to the living room but Kendra wasn't there, the kitchen door was open and the sweet aroma of the fried chicken was something he fell in love with. He tiptoed to the kitchen and tickled her, she looked back.
"Hey, Edgar. What was that for?" she asked, covering the pot of fried chicken and turning back at him.
"I'm sorry I startled you. I was on my way leaving"
"Leaving? What do you mean? What about Camella? Did anything happen last night?" she asked eagerly.
"She made me sleep on the floor. My whole body hurt, I have to get back home on time and my mom is already waiting" he said and made to leave but Kendra stopped him.
"How many more times do I have to tell you you don't know how to lie? What exactly is the problem?"
"I'm sorry but I don't want to share it but you might not see me again"
Kendra eyes widened and she moved closer to Edgar whose eyes were now teary.
"Is it that bad?"
Edgar nodded and Kendra hugged him. They broke free from the hug after some seconds and Edgar left without saying any more word. Kendra broke down in tears as she lost another friend.
Gavin said tall in front of the mirror with his hands in his pockets but rather than seeing his won reflection, he was seeing the hotel hostess.
"Has she charmed me? I can't believe I'm falling for a chubby lady." he said, shaking off the thought.
He wore a matching black suit with a blue shirt and a black tie to match. He carried his travel box and wheeled it down to the receptionist, it was the same lady he met last night.
"Good morning. Here's my key, I'm checking out" he said as he handed the keys over to the lady.
"Okay, sir. We're you able to see the person you were looking for last night?"
"No but it doesn't matter now" he said, brought out his shade and wore it.
He was almost at the entrance when she saw the hotel hostess he had been looking for but before he could smile at her, she missed her steps but he was fast enough to grip her.
Kendra prepared breakfast and prepared for work. She was eating when Camellia came out stretching and yawning.
"Good morning" Camellia said but Kendra refused to reply her.
Camellia went to the kitchen to get her meal and took her seat beside Ken.
"This is so delicious" she said as she took the first bite but Kendra still didn't say a word, she continued.
"Is anything the problem, Ken? Why aren't you saying anything?"
Kendra finished her meal, took her plates to the kitchen and picked up her bag on the couch and went to work. She was already running late for work so she decided to board a bus. She alighted from the bus and was running towards the hotel but she missed her steps as soon as she entered the hotel but was quickly gripped by a familiar figure.
Kendra who was frightened, closed her eyes tightly, expecting a loud sound as she fall to the ground but saw surprised when a hand gripped her tight around her waist. She slowly opened her eyes, not sure of what to expect but to see the miracle that happened. She saw the lodger she ran into the previous day. His smile was as bright at the day and saving her made her heart skip a beat. Gavin helped her up but his face now has a stern look on.
"I'm sorry to bother you, sir" Kendra said with her hands twisted together and her gaze fixed on the ground.
"You have to compensate me" his deep voice that melted Kendra's heart but this time pierced her heart as she had no money to compensate him.
She looked up at him, shocked and confused whether to cry or go on her kneels, "I'm sorry, sir. Pardon me this time, I promise to be more careful next time. I don't have money to compensate you"
"Then you have to compensate me in kind, as least what I did was a little kindness" he said with a mischievous grin which was hard to unravel what was behind.
"How do you mean, sir?" she said with her eyes widened.
He dipped his hand into his pocket and brought out a card, took Kendra's hand in his and gave the card to her., "Let's meet over the weekend and I'll let you know how you can repay my kindness"
"I'd look to but I have to work" she said confidently.
"Then prepare to lose the job you hold so dear" he whispered in her ear.
He dragged his travel bag closer, adjusted his suit and walked pass Kendra who stood transfixed as the last sentence kept echoing in her head, slightly hitting her shoulder.
