Chapter 1
══ ◈ ══
HOLDING MY bouquet, I walked down the aisle while the children on the sides were scattering the flowers from their baskets. Some of the petals brushed against my long, beautiful wedding gown.
Slowly, I lifted my gaze to the front. Smiling, I looked at the man I would marry today. He smiled back at me, and I was overwhelmed with joy.
The moment I had long awaited, the man I had loved for so long, stood before me, ready to be my partner for life. I felt like I was floating on air with happiness, a day I would never forget.
"Do you take Faerie as your lawfully wedded wife to have and to hold from this day forward?" the priest asked with a smile, glancing at Kyro.
I felt Kyro's grip on my hand tighten, causing me to wince slightly, but I quickly regained my composure as he answered, "I do."
"Faerie, do you take Kyro as your lawfully wedded husband to have and to hold from this day forward?" the priest asked with a playful smile, making me blush.
Ignoring his playful demeanor, I looked into Kyro's eyes. "Yes, I do," I responded with a smile, and the man in front of me smiled back.
"Then, I humbly declare, husband and wife! You may now kiss the bride," the priest cheerfully said, then stepped back a little from the two of us and signaled for us to kiss.
I froze like a statue when Kyro lifted my veil. He hasn't kissed me yet, so I'm nervous.
Yes, he hadn't kissed me yet. We weren't even in a relationship. I had just started working at his company after recently graduating from college. A week after graduating, I received a job offer from an unknown person, but I accepted it and fortunately got the job. Kyro was my classmate and my crush since our first year of college until graduation.
I gasped as he gently held my face, leaned in, and kissed me. It was quick, and I wanted more. It was just a peck, but I longed for a deeper kiss.
Kyro let go of my face, took my hand, and raised it in the air. Smiling, we waved at our guests.
The wedding ceremony ended, and we headed to a hotel where Kyro and I would spend the night. It was exhausting but worth it.
"Here's the key, open it," Kyro said, handing me the key to our room. I grabbed it and quickly opened the door.
We were still in our wedding attire when we entered our room.
"The view is beautiful, isn't it?" I murmured, pointing to the glass window in front of us.
The city lights looked like stars from up here. I smiled again and gazed at him.
I was surprised when he suddenly picked up a remote from the side and pressed a button. As the window slowly opened, a strong breeze rushed in. I held a strand of my hair by my ear, savoring the cool air that filled our hotel room.
He grabbed my waist without a word, and I was shocked when he grinned suspiciously and tightened his grip.
"Do you really think I married you because I love you?" he sneered, his smirk sending chills down my spine.
I frowned, trying to understand his words. What is he implying? I'm not wealthy. I'm an orphan, so it can't be for money. Wha—
My eyes widened as he suddenly pulled me toward the open window.
"W-What are you doing?" I cried out, my voice trembling.
My heart pounded so hard it felt like it would burst from my chest. My entire body shook as I looked down from the high-rise building. Is he going to throw me out?
Tears streamed down my face when I saw the wicked grin on his lips.
"You made my life a nightmare, and I'm giving it back to you. Isn't it exciting?" He twisted a lock of my hair with his left hand. I tried to hold back my sobs, too terrified to cry in front of him. We're on the 10th floor, for goodness' sake! How can I stay calm when I'm staring death in the face?
He was about to release my waist, but I grabbed his hand desperately.
"N-No! Please let me live! I've worked too hard to get here! I'm too young to die! Please, spare my life, Kyro!" I begged, trembling as I tried to stop him from pushing me. I looked straight into his eyes, and my heart shattered into a million pieces when I saw how cold they were. I bit my lower lip, fighting back the rising panic.
He doesn't care at all. I was the only one who wanted this marriage. I don't know the reason why he wants to kill me, but I don't want to die yet… I still want to live. I studied hard to get to this position, and I'm not even halfway there.
W-Why does this always happen to me? Why is it always me? There are so many other people out there, but why am I the one carrying all the bad luck in the world? I want a normal, peaceful life where I can do what I want and marry who I love. I thought after finishing my studies, I would achieve the life I dreamed of, but I was wrong.
"Please," I pleaded again.
Tears streamed down my face as I sobbed, staring at him, clutching his arms tighter so he couldn't easily push me. Why is he doing this? Is this a prank? Because it's not funny at all!
"P-Please," I repeated. I cleared my throat before speaking again. "I-I just want to be happy with you," I added, my eyes locked onto his. Why would you kill me?
I saw his lips curl into a smile as he stared at me intensely. "Well, that's too bad," he said slowly, taking a step forward.
I stepped back, but quickly grabbed onto him when I felt the floor vanish beneath my feet.
I looked down and squeezed my eyes shut at the height. My head would explode if I fell.
I looked back at him, still crying, while he grinned at me.
"Die, Faerie," he muttered as he slowly pushed me away. I resisted, gripping his arms tightly so he couldn't push me off.
I can't die right now. That thought kept running through my mind. I want to live the life I've dreamed about since I was young. I'm so close to it; I won't let this man destroy it.
"Help!" I screamed, my lungs feeling like they would burst. Kyro was startled by my scream. He was so shocked that his tight grip on me loosened. I seized the moment to break free from his hold. I jumped back into the room and ran away from him.
"Why did you scream, gold-digger b*tch?" he spat at me once he recovered from his shock.
"I-I'm not a gold-digger. I wanted to marry you because I love you, and I thought you felt the same, but I was wrong." I fidgeted as I spoke, my entire body trembling and my breathing rapid. I don't want this anymore, I'm scared.
Tears continued to stream down my face as I looked at Kyro's angry expression. His brow was furrowed, and he glared at me with his eyebrows knitted together.
"You're testing my patience, Faerie," he said, a lecherous grin spreading across his face as he slowly walked toward me.
"Please... Let me go. I'll sign the divorce papers. I don't care if we just got married," I said softly. I cleared my throat before speaking again. "If you're mad because I married you, we can just end it."
"Are you kidding me? You want me to be humiliated by my whole family and the staff at my company?" He laughed sarcastically, covering half of his face with his left hand.
I shook my head repeatedly. "No! That's not what I meant, Kyro!" I shouted at him. I stepped back as he moved toward me again.
"You stu—" He didn't finish his sentence because his phone rang.
"F*ck it!" he yelled when he saw who was calling.
He ruffled his hair in frustration before answering.
"Hello? Yes, we're coming. Okay. Thanks, Dad. Goodbye." He hung up the phone.
He walked toward me, and I was about to run, but he grabbed my hand and held it tightly.
"You're lucky," he muttered, pulling me out of the hotel room.
He took a white cloth from his tuxedo pocket and wiped my face with it.
"Fix yourself. We're going to meet my dad," he said with his brows knitted.
I stopped walking because of that.
"W-Why?" I asked him nervously.
I jumped when he brought his lips close to my neck. What did he think he's doing?!
"He bought a house, we can continue our love making in that house," he whispered softly to me and gave a mischievous grin.
I couldn't speak after hearing what he said. No... I need to find a way to escape! Love making my a*s! He will continue torturing me in that house, right? So, no!
"And you can't complain about it because I have this." His brows waggled as he spoke. I saw him raise his hand, showing me what he was holding.
My eyes widened when I saw it.
No. Why does he have that?!
