*Ch 285: A Vampire's Deception

Earlier morning, I got ready for college since I felt perfectly fine. Before I left, Kai made me another blood milkshake for breakfast. This way, we knew our babies got their natural nourishment from their father's blood.

After dealing with Rebecca for one hour, I go to the cafe and found Tyler was already here at our usual booth with two coffees on the table.

"Hey, I missed you yesterday." Tyler mentioned once I got comfortably adjusted in the booth.

"I was feeling tired, so I skipped classes to pamper myself. Plus, Kai returned home," I shared.

"Kai finally came home after six days," Tyler smirked. "Did you get any time with him?"

I sighed. "He's still busy, especially after what happened yesterday."

"Did something happen?" Tyler lifted a peculiar brow.

"Well..." I filled him in on the attack, and he seemed shocked.

"I'm glad to see you aren't hurt," he thinly smiled.

"Me too. I was worried about my babies." I added before taking another sip of my coffee.

"I'd imagine you would be," Tyler oddly snickered, then a strange smirk appeared on the right corner of his lip.

My mouth hung loose to ask why he was grinning at me like that but then my voice faltered. Sharp stabbing cramps twinged my stomach, and I didn't understand it. Pain like this usually means my babies aren't happy about something they sense.

"Your babies are awake." Tyler chuckled. "That's the first time since we've been talking."

"I think they're upset." I frowned before my face flinched in more pain. "I'm sorry, I think I need to leave."

"Do have a nice day." Tyler grinned while I gathered my stuff.

"I'll see you tomorrow," I told him before I got out of there.

Once I did, I started to feel a little bit better as I neared my car. "I guess you all wanna go home early today," I whispered to them.

From thin air, Ivan emerged by my car.

His face seemed disturbed, and I didn't get why.

"How long have you been talking with Tyler?" he questioned me with an exceedingly serious undertone.

"Since last Tuesday," I replied.

"You need to stay away from him," Ivan warned.

"Why?" I retorted. "Tyler said he's best friends with Kai, but for whatever unknown reason my husband is holding a grudge."

"He's not Kai's friend," Ivan claimed. "Whatever Tyler told you has only been a lie."

"Or are you guys still resentful for something that happened in the past!" I retorted, giving him my hormonal attitude.

"Think about this, Victoria, Tyler's an alpha vampire. Vampires are pros at deception. Lying and tricking people comes way too effortlessly for us. Anything he told you was nothing but astute lies for him to get what he wants." Ivan gave a long sigh after telling me this.

At first, I didn't wanna believe him, but he was right. Vampires were intelligent and wily creatures. And my babies were upset about something. Perhaps Tyler is the reason why my babies were distressed.

"Can you take me home?" I handed Ivan the car key, and he took it. We got in the car, and he started driving us home.

"We'll have to inform Kai about Tyler," Ivan told me once we pulled in.

"I realized that." I grimaced at the thought before we both got out of the car.

Ivan came around and surprisingly hugged me. "It will be ok," he crooned gently.

Afterward, we found Kai in his office. His minions were updating him about what they had found.

"The Landlock Coven are the ones who summon the attack," one of them notified.

"They're allies with Tyler's Coven." Ivan outwardly mentioned after he told Kai about Tyler falsely befriending me. Now it all came together.

"It's my fault," I whispered in hopes no one heard me as guilt filled my heart for how stupid I am right now.

"How is this your fault?" Kai waved me over to his desk. Once I got near him, he took my hand and had me sit on his lap.

I swallowed a mouthful of saliva. This was the moment I told my capricious husband more details about Tyler. I confessed, we talked about our mansion security. Therefore I was the one who said the indoor pool wasn't always heavily guarded because of how densely set up it is with flowerbeds and huge bushes. I told Kai everything while his friends and the minions all silently listened.

"I'm so sorry." Tears rolled down my cheeks after I finished.

To my utter surprise, Kai kissed them away as he cooed. "It's not your fault."

I was expecting Kai might flip out like he normally does, but to my shock, he was mellow.

"Tyler is a chameleon. He must've covered his scent whenever the guardians were checking the areas while we were away," Ace stated at the front of the desk between everyone else.

"I want double security on the campus grounds and at home," Kai gave his decree, and they gave a firm head nod it will be done.

Once that was settled, everyone went outside. I remained at the stone deck to watch them train in the open yard while I was reading information for my geology map on my laptop. This was when, I found out Rome's second gift gave him the power to bend water to his will. He and Glenn were working together as another vampire was throwing ice cubes in the air. Rome was trying to liquefy them before Glenn evaporated them.

"Watch, you nailed me that time!" Rome laughed aloud as he shook his scorched hand.

It wasn't working out, because Glenn's fire gift was too strong. The ice was melting too fast for Rome to get it.

"Maybe we need something bigger than ice cubes!" Glenn cracked up, watching Rome cooling his hand off in the bag of ice.

"Should we order a few ice sculptures?" Ace laughed while he was helping Jack and Kai train Ian.

Overall, I realized they were training because of this threat of war, and because I overheard Kai was getting ready to take Rex down. That's why Rome and Glenn were working together because Rex's one advisor has a powerful ice gift.

One hour later, Kai came to check on me at the deck. "You can head inside, so you're not cold."

"I'm fine. Darlene is bringing me warm tea," I smiled.

Ironically she came out with a tray, holding teacups and snacks. "I brought you some freshly baked pastries," Darlene announced, setting the tray on the table.

Kai seemed rather pleased by her service to care for me. "Alright, I'll check on you in a bit." He kissed my lips before he went back into the yard.

To keep me company, Darlene took a seat at the table, and we both shared the snacks she had brought out while we talked.
