Book 2: Chapter 26

I could tell Sean's eyes on me, but I never glanced at him, even when he turned to leave. The lawyer then showed me documents that were all dated a few months ago, precisely the same month when Sean and I met at the emergency room. My hands then trembled as I picked up one of those thick sheets.

"Why are all these in my name?" I asked; the sound of my racing heartbeats was louder than my breathing.

"Yes. It's because Mr. Grey had transferred the ownership of everything that Sir Thomas left him to your name."

"Just when?" All of a sudden, my voice wouldn't almost come out from my throat.

"A few weeks before you were appointed as the new president of the hospital."

I scanned those other pages, and my eyes flew wide when something caught my attention.

"Laminae Inc., and Thomas and Albert Grey Medical Center are also in my name?"

"Of course. Those are one of the companies that Mr. Grey owns."

I froze for a while, thinking that maybe all of them were wrong. Why would Sean transfer everything to my name before our marriage if he craved for that wealth for himself? To think, the inheritance was given to him, first. But those heated scenes of Sean and Calla played again in my mind, and I was reminded of his betrayal. Anger and humiliation then tore up the remaining threads of hesitations I had for this decision.

"Atty. Evarez, my decision remains the same. Gather everyone, and tell them that Sean is no longer connected to all the businesses under TAG's."

I left the office, feeling the angry and mocking gaze of the lawyer. Hazel and Philip followed me; not one of them saying a word about what just happened until we were in the car.

"Hazel, what do you think? Sean has already transferred everything to my name a long time ago."

Hazel scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Of course, a game won't be that interesting without the tricks."

"Really? What do you think, Philip?"

Philip also smirked as he glanced over his shoulders. "That's part of the drama. You are already his wife, what else can he lose?"

Buying again at their opinions, I answered. "Everything, because I would file a divorce."

The two went silent as we went back to the hotel. I also had many things in my mind that I felt I hadn't enough time to think things over. The meeting with the shareholders could happen the next day or a few days after today, and honestly, I still did not know how to face them.

Inviting the two for a late lunch, I had taken a final decision to talk to Philip. We picked a table at a corner where we could see clients coming in because I didn't want Sean to just appear unnoticed. Just as I took my seat, an attendant approached us with a bouquet of pink and red tulips in her hand.

"Dr. Red?" she asked; a broad smile plastered on her face.

"Yes?"

"Flowers for you," she said, her eyes moving from me to the flowers.

"May I know from whom is that?" I was already presuming that it was from Sean, expecting that he would do everything to make me change my mind.

"It's written on the card, I think."

I accepted the flowers and waited until she turned to leave. Then, I plucked out the card from a stem to read the note.

Hello, Dr. Grey!

Welcome to the business world! I had just learned about the news a while ago. Hoping to meet you soon.

Ian from Riddance Corporation.

I furrowed my brows as I stared at the card, wondering who was this Ian from Riddance Corporation. And I smirked at how fast the information disseminated.

"Is that from Mr. Sean?" Hazel asked, giggling perhaps at the thought that Sean wouldn't let go of me easily.

I turned to Philip and threw him a questioning look. "Do you know who is this Ian from Riddance Corporation?"

Philip pulled up his brows together as he tried to recall. "I have heard about this company, but I don't remember I met a person named Ian. What I know is that Riddance is one of TAG's competitors."

"And why does he send flowers to Dr. Red?" Hazel butted in. I then realized how complicated it was to be in the business world.

"It could be a threat, or an announcement that the victory would now be his. There was no way he could beat Sir Sean. Perhaps, he sees you as someone too weak to run TAG."

I began to feel nervous. What if the lawyer's prediction would come true? That I would only be destroying the Grey's legacy just because of my anger and jealousy.

"What should I do, Philip?"

"It's simple but difficult. Hire someone competitive to run the business. And look for a business consultant to guide you."

"Can I hire you, Philip? You know everything about Sean's business. And besides, I just could not trust anyone."

Philip pursed a smile and said, "Sure, doc, but you need to look for someone more capable of running a myriad of companies at the same time."

The only one who came to my head was none other than my ex-boyfriend, Eric. Before I could answer, another waiter approached us. She was also holding a bouquet of red roses.

"Dr. Red?"

"Yes."

"Flowers for you," she smiled, handing to me the bouquet of fresh, red roses. Water droplets still glided on its shiny surfaces, giving it a garden-fresh look.

"Thank you." I no longer asked who sent it, praying silently that the sender would not be another business competitor. If it would go on like these, I felt afraid that it might wear down my courage.

I slowly picked up the card; my heart was already pulling its spontaneous wild stunts.

"May God grant you his wisdom as you set out on this new journey. I always believe in you."

He didn't write his name, but I knew it was him. A glimpse of his penmanship was like seeing him. And all I longed to do at that moment was to snuggle in his chest again.
