Chapter 26: Too Much to Lose

I blinked. “What? I’m Suzanne. You stayed with us in Wellport.”

My heart began to physically ache as I struggled to catch my breath. It had to be a joke.

Xander shook his head and said something low to one of the guards close to him. He moved to walk away with two of the guards remaining behind. Lewis and I both moved to follow him, but the two brutes that had remained with us moved to stand in our way.

“What are you doing?” Lewis demanded as we could see Xander exit the building and walk toward a waiting car.

“You are to leave Mr. Crafton alone,” one of the men said.

“He barely spoke to us,” Lewis protested. He got no reply back.

When the car had driven off, the two men directed us to the door and literally walked us out of the building. One of them said, “Don’t ever come back,” before they disappeared back inside.

We stood on the sidewalk completely dumbfounded at what had happened.

“Suzanne, you need to eat.”
