An odd meeting. (Pt.1)

"What? That wouldn't work."

"Haha, you're right. That'd be silly."

"If he didn't break the rules, it would have been possible."

"Hey." I waited until they quiet down, so as to not interrupt the conversation, and greeted the 3 people.

"Hi."

"Hello.. Hold up. Who are you?!" A man jumped from his seat. He was tall, had a beard, and was around 45 years old judging by his looks.

"Ya drunk a little much or what? Just ignore him, Kidan. Have a seat." A boy spoke to me without looking back.

"Are you sure you didn't confuse me with someone? I'm not Kidan or whatever the name is." The boy looked at me like I was joking, and made a shocked face.

"Hey again. I'm River." I smiled awkwardly.

"How did you get into God's Den?" The boy also jumped up from his couch and looked at me, dumbfounded.

"What's all the chatter about? Oi, oi! Are you the new assigned Godlike?" The third man, who was napping when I entered, excitedly greeted me. He was shorter, bald, and had a pretty muscular build.

"Oh, that makes sense. You're the Godlike, you know, the one Albert was talking about." The boy looked at the other two men, waiting to see their reactions.

"You're probably talking about someone else. I don't know what a Godlike even is. And I haven't met anybody named Albert. I think." Well, this is just weird. Why are there three random people in my subconsciousness?

"Are you 100% sure about that? I doubt anybody else would be able to get in here." Oh, yeah. I think they called this place "God's Den".

"Well, as you can see I'm standing here before you. And I'm not Kidan or the other guy you were talking about." I wouldn't confuse myself with somebody else.

"Do you mind telling us how you got here?" They are quite persistent. There's nothing to lose for me, so I may as well tell them.

"Will do. As long as you answer some of my questions as well. I have to keep it short though. If I stay here for too long, my real body might die." I laid out my requirements. If they say no, I'll just leave them be and pretend like we never met in the first place.

They looked at each other, and after a small chat, agreed to answer my questions as well.

"Then, I'll start with the most important question - how did you get access to this door?" Should I tell them the truth? I may as well.

"Whenever I enter the subconscious space, I have to leave it otherwise I'll never wake up. I leave it through a door, but there was also another door I noticed on the way to the main one. I have some spare time today, so I decided to see what's behind it." I explained everything as simply as possible.

"And that door led to this room. I see. But how did you enter the said "subconscious space"?" What, so he doesn't even know that? Maybe not everyone enters this space when they get knocked out, in which case it makes sense why they didn't know.

"I just need to lose consciousness and I will appear here. For example, if I lose too much blood, or if I get banged in the head too hard. Or, like this time, when I'm evolving." I need to be quite careful with the explanations. After all, I don't know how fast time flows here.

"That explains everything. Hmm, we need to figure out why you had access to this door. Foley, could you report this case to Albert, just in case?" The bald man asked the kid.

"Alrighty. I'll be back in an hour or so." Foley walked up to a wall, tapped it with his finger, and a new door appeared. He disappeared through the door, and it vanished right after him.

"Sorry for interrupting your conversation, River, but did you just say you were evolving?" The bearded man, who was quietly watching us so far, spoke up.

"Yes." I proudly said. It was quite the struggle to reach the required evolution level, but now that I'm done, I feel great.

"Hoh. You must be a very special person, then. After all, you're the first human to ever evolve." He analyzed my look with interest.

"That so.. cool. Will I get any reward for that, perhaps?" I sure hope so. It seems like quite the achievement to me.

"Haha. Of course you will. It's a title all creatures strive to achieve. To meet somebody like that in person; I'm a lucky guy." I'm glad these people are friendly.

"If I combine that with the title I'll get once I leave floor ten, [Dump Cleaner], I'd get one hella boost. Can't wait." Plus, I'm also getting a new race.

"[Dump Cleaner], you said?" The man had a sour smile on his face.

The questions which River could ask might just lead to the lore of this world finally being uncovered. Or maybe not yet.

Make of this what you will. See you in the next chatper~
