Chapter 25: Gaolbreak - Chaos Ensue (1)

A few minutes earlier, some of the godlings were awake the whole time when they saw Ezekiel sneaking away from his cell. The first stages of their breakout plan has commenced. They just hope that the plan created by the wisdom godlings works, otherwise, they’ll definitely be heavily punished or executed for attempting to escape from the Fatherland.

Theria took out her walkie-talkie from underneath her bed, “Is it time, Rashidi?”

“Not yet. He still has yet to cause the explosion.” Rashidi responded over the communication device. “Hope he doesn’t take too long.”

“Still don’t know whether to believe this will work. We should’ve waited a bit.” Klokr said. “This is a suicide mission.”

“Better than continuing another year of suffering. I can’t handle the discrimination anymore.” Kei was in an urge to yell over the walkie-talkie, but had to lower her voice to avoid waking up other godlings. “It’s now or never.”

“Jeez, now’s not the time to argue among each other.” Thana said. “You, smart godlings, are always competing with each other. You can do that after we get out of here.”

“Thana is right. We mustn’t argue now. It’s too late to turn back. We must be ready.” Rashidi agreed with Thana. “Sage, how’s the disguise? Are they finishing yet?”

“Just finished it now.” Sage answered while pulling the thread from the outfit that resembles the Fatherland uniform before cutting it. She then threw it in a pile of dozens of disguises and winter outfits. “They are ready.”

“Good. For now, save your energy. Over.” Rashidi said before sighing. “I hope my gift doesn't fail me.”

Thana leaned back against the wall before dropping the walkie-talkie on the ground, “The suspense is going to be the death of me… how ironic.”

A few minutes later, a godling in his cell stared at the clock on his walls. When the clock almost hit 8:00 PM, he took out a walkie-talkie that wasn't connected with the other communication device. The line was connected to a special person from the outside world. It was the reason why he was ambitious in escaping this hellhole. It’s all thanks to that person.

“Is it time?” The unknown godling asked the person over the walkie-talkie.

“It is. You may detonate.” The person responded.

The godling smirked as he raised the detonator. There are bombs that were planted around the facility in secret for three years. He and the other godlings have already been planning an escape due to the discrimination and hellish training. He doesn’t want to spend his lifetime in this godforsaken place.

If it weren’t for this stranger’s prophecy, he wouldn’t have the chance to escape here with several aids from the godlings.

The godling breathed in and out before letting out a battle cry while smiling wickedly, “Korstog av forakt! Reis deg!”

He pressed the detonator, as several explosions occurred in several places in an instant without a warning. The guards and staff were engulfed by the flames and blown to pieces by the shockwave.

The entire facility was on lockdown. Alarms are ringing everywhere. Everything is flashing red. The godlings who weren’t aware of the explosions were cowering in fear while the superior ones wondered what the hell just happened.

The cells were then opened due to a sudden malfunction, much to everyone’s confusion. The guards were confused on what to do now. Their head leader, Kiara, is currently attending some business with a client.

Chaos was ensuing in mere seconds.

Thana dropped from her cell without using the ladder and activated a detonator on her hands which released intoxicating smoke gas that is only affected to humans, courtesy of an unknown person from the outside world.

The godlings aren’t affected by the smoke gas due to their physiology. The guards were feeling dizziness and chest pain, as all of them kneeled on the ground to attempt to remove their helmets to breathe properly (which was unwise to do so).

Thana, Theria, Sage, Rashidi, Klokr, and Kei met up while some godlings as well as members of the Fatherland around them were running in every direction in a confused state. The members of the Crusade of Contempt managed to join up with them after making their way through the fog and bumping into others with difficulty.

Sage threw the Fatherland disguises on the ground, “Here are the disguises.”

“Are we sure this is going to work?” Boris (Boreas) asked while putting on the disguise. “We are like fifty to fifty-nine inches tall. And the Fatherland is like seventy inches tall or something.”

Sage nodded in reassurance, “It will work. Trust me. My gift isn’t just good for weaving clothes, you know. It can also trick anyone no matter how tall or short you are. How effective it is, I have no idea. I never properly tested it.”

“So we’re just depending on luck?” Reiko (Inari) was nervous, wondering whether she made the right choice to be part of the crusade. She doesn’t want to die if this plan fails in the end.

Hugo (Quetzalcoatl) shook his head while holding the Bible tightly in his arms, “No, we need to depend on faith. We need to believe this will work. We need to believe in Him that this plan works.”

“Now’s not the time to talk about that book, Hugo.” Idris (Heimdall) said before realizing that one of them is missing. “Hold on. Where is Leighis (Daikokuten)?”

“Oh no. He probably got lost in the fog.” Chadlynn (Bast) said. “What should we do?”

“As I planned. Go find Jashin and free those godlings who are still locked up, especially Fenris.” Rashidi reminded them about the plan. “We then need to get to the escape route in less than ten minutes. One of us also needs to do something about the area that Ezekiel is currently in right now. We need to save a godling that is secretly trapped there, according to that ‘person’.”

“I-I’ll volunteer.” Halvor (Odin) said reluctantly while his hands were shivering in fear. “If this escape plan meant rescuing one of our own, then yeah, I’m in.”

“I’ll go as well.” Ife (Hathor) volunteered as well albeit with hesitation. “I want to be helpful. And I can probably… ‘charm’… the guards if they are there. Don’t know if it’ll work.”

“Alright then. We have our assignments.” Rashidi said. “Let’s move. We have less than ten minutes left.”

As the Crusaders left to do their assignments before reinforcements came, Theria grabbed Rashidi’s hand before he ran.

“What is it?” Rashidi asked.

“What about that ‘person’? Are we not going to help him?” Theria asked curiously.

“We don’t have time for that, Theria. And besides, we don’t even know who he is so it’s pointless to help him if we don’t know who he is nor where he is.” Rashidi said.

“Right. My apologies. I forgot to use my gift to think about that common sense.” Theria apologized for her lack of common sense. “But what about Corey? He is always eager to get out of here, but he didn’t join the crusade. Should we help him as well?”

Rashidi sighed, “I’m sure Corey will be fine. He is, after all, a trickster. He’ll find our escape route sooner or later. But right now, we should prioritize ourselves and the godlings that are still locked up.”

Theria nodded, “Okay, let’s go.”

As they disappeared through the fog, several illusions of Corey were attempting to make their way through it while flickering in and out. All of the illusions were showing a determined expression on escaping this facility.

It wasn’t even in his mind to find Ezekiel and inform him about the riot. He is prioritizing himself first before others. Still, it would take a mad genius to pull this off which deeply impressed him.

The superior godlings, on the other hand, were attempting to calm the current situation by displaying their superiority, but nobody listened to them.

They were having an urge to attack the weak godlings to put them in their place, but they’ll have to wait for orders from the Fatherland first, except for Shu (Zhurong) and Kaito (Ryujin) who made their way through the thick fog.

All of them hoped that they weren't going to be blamed by the Fatherland for failing to stop the godlings without their permission or causing havoc in the first place.

Darren Padriag, who is one of the instructors and a huge asshole, showed up at the chaotic situation. He and his men were wearing a gas mask to prevent inhaling the smoke. He then received a message from his superior about what to do with the riot.

“I have received orders from Ms. Kiara!” Darren yelled. “Subdue all godlings and contain the situation!”

“What!?” Aster yelled.

The guards began to walk around the foggy area, looking for godlings and stunning them with their guns left and right. They were also attacked by godlings in return. It was difficult to see in the fog, but they’ll manage to finish their task as they aren’t planning to lose to some children.

Back to Ezekiel, he got up from the pile of boxes that landed on top of him after the sudden explosion. He doesn’t know what is going on upstairs, but something certainly big happened. He doesn’t know whether he should go back up with the box of information or should remain down here for a while until things calm down.

He decided to stay down here. He doesn’t want to risk himself being caught. Whenever the chaos will die down, he’ll need to find a way to escape from this underground facility. He cannot go back to his cell anymore after the guards notice he isn’t anywhere to be found. He wondered what caused the commotion above that ruined his original plan, not that he made one in the first place.

“I should just stay here for a while.” He said before pulling the box filled with information about godlings closer.

He then took one out to read. It was about Corey, his best friend. He is curious about his past before becoming a test subject for the Theos Krustallos. Besides, it’s not like his best friend would know he read his information anyway. It’s a secret between himself.

He was about to read it until he felt a warm, buzzing feeling everywhere. He placed back the file immediately after his body was feeling an instinctive behavior like an animal, a perk of being a godling. He doesn’t know what’s going on, but his entire body felt being slightly electrified by lightning, similar to Aster yet it is somehow “itchy” compared to feeling the full power of Jupiter.

The lights were flickering faster than ever before while producing a faint humming sound at the same time.

Ezekiel was about to get out of the storage room to see if Aster was somehow here, otherwise, he’ll be in big trouble. He got back inside quickly after hearing an elevator descending from above, meaning that someone was in the elevator. He closed the door, but left a bit of opening to take a peak on whoever is here, hoping it isn’t the Fatherland.

He, however, didn’t expect to see some familiar faces after seeing their shadows that are the same size as him.

“I shouldn’t… shouldn’t have volunteered…” Halvor said before gulping in nervousness and fear due to the intimidating display of the creepy hallway and flickering lights. “This… feels like I’m in a h-h-horror movie…”

Ife sighed before nodding in agreement, “Yeah, but there’s no turning back now. We need to stick to the plan. We must free this mysterious godling and find the escape route.”

“Mysterious godling? Who are they talking about?” Ezekiel asked himself quietly.

A box suddenly fell from the top shelf, which spooked him and alerted Halvor and Ife.

“What was that…!?” Halvor hid behind Ife, which was embarrassing for him.

“Tsk. Let’s finish before Ezekiel finds us here.” Ife said. “We can’t afford to let him see or question us. The plan won’t work without him otherwise.”

Ezekiel raised his right eyebrow in confusion, “Huh?”
