Chapter 40: The Social Worker

Cade opened the door to find a woman on his doorstep the next morning. This didn’t happen often that random women wandered into the woods and knocked on his door. She didn’t look like Goldilocks, and he wasn’t a bear shifter.

“May I help you?” Cade asked.

The woman pulled out some identification. “I’m Sandra Logan. I’m a social worker here to inspect the house.”

She stood maybe five feet tall and had the attitude of someone twice her size.

“Why?” Cade asked.

Cade had been on his way to his office. Rose was still getting Keegan ready for school and then she was going to do some shopping for Cade. It was the perfect domestic scene other than the fact that he and Rose weren’t sleeping together. That made it different, but at least she was under his protection.

“I’ve been sent by the court,” she said.

She handed him a piece of paper. He looked down at it unsure of what he was looking at.
