Chapter 41:Magic 2/2 (Goodbye boys)

August made his way through halls made of white marble. He was in a hurry. This last training proved to be quite alarming. His inability to resist Vilgefortz fully brought a lot of discomfort to August's mind.

Approaching the door and knocking a few times. He entered without waiting for a reply.

Giving no kind of explanation, August went straight to the business. "How to defend from magic influence?"

Nenneke, having no clue of the sudden August appearance, was quite shocked at his hustle and lack of any etiquette, which brought a lot of annoyance to her.

With a tired face, she inquired, "What happened? Can you at least explain?"

August remained silent and repeated with a stone face, "How to escape magic influence?"

Nenneke sighed with a tired voice asking, "What kind of influence? You know that I'm not a magician, right?"

The response was silence. Nenneke had to admit that 2 of the Witchers were too troublesome to deal with. Both August and Geralt were alike.

"Alright, I will just tell what I know," said Nenneke being slightly annoyed

She thought for a second before standing up from her chair and walking towards a big bookshelf that was placed in her room. She let her hand pass the books until she found 2 particular books that were there.

She dropped them on the table with a loud sound and said, pointing towards one of the books.

"This one is about one thing that can help you. It talks about a metal called Dimeritium, which can surpass any kind of magic. But it is really hard to get, very rare and almost never sold to anyone but kings and brotherhood."

August nodded his head and took a book in his hand, looking through pages before looking into her eyes, waiting for another book description.

Nenneke snorted and said, "This is just some theories about how to train yourself to never be controlled by mind magic."

August took another book and walked away.

Nenneke grumbled quietly, "Could at least say thank you"

Before the doors were closed with a loud sound, August's voice reached Neneneke's ears, "Thank you, Nenneke"

…..

August continued learning different things and also researching how to lift a curse that was placed on him by Vilgefortz. However, until now, he found no trace of a reliable way of getting rid of it other than metal, which is very rare to find and buy.

Months after months passed, while both Albert and August searched for a way of getting rid of a curse, but they never forget about training. With every week of training, Albert was getting better and better with a sword.

While August was more proficient with his signs and telepathy. August already learned that he could communicate at great distances with others, and that was quite a useful and convenient way of getting in touch with one another.

While he never actually forgot about alchemy and was strongly involved with the temple garden that was home to a lot of different cultures that had no place on the wild ground. August learned most of the alchemy in the temple, since all they focused on was healing. Now he was quite proficient in this field of knowledge.

Other than that, August practised a lot in trying to control his magic powers, but all the time it didn't work the way he needed. Sometimes he was getting small bits and pieces of the past that Albert had, but since most of his past was with August, there was nothing useful in this.

Albert, on the other hand, greatly improved in his areas of water and space magic. But calling it space is quite too much, since it is mostly related to teleportation around and creating constructs that will allow you to teleport from one point to another.

One minus of this participial power is that the person must know where he is going, otherwise, it will never work.

Other Witchers also made a lot of improvement in the area of their signs and swords fighting. Although their training load was less than those of Albert and August, they were also getting quite proficient.

But nothing lasts forever. A lot of time passed in the temple and now August already turned 28 years old, while Albert turned 16. Geralt followed behind being 1 year younger than August at 27 as well as others who were 26-27.

All of them gathered up in the garden along with Nenneke.

Everyone was present, but Vilgefortz. The last time he was ever spotted by anyone was this time when he left after hearing August's words.

August, Albert, Geralt, Eskel, Lambert, Nenneke, Remus and Berengar.

It was time to say goodbye to each other. They were ready to set off on the free sailing called life.

Eskel was the first one to speak with a sincere smile on his face, which was rare to see "Guys!" shouted Eskel, attracting the attention of everyone present. "I think I want to say a few words"

He cleared his throat, took a glass fully filled with wine, stood straight like a string and said in a moderate and honest voice, "I want to say that this was a wonderful time. All of us boys"

Nennke cleared her throat.

"Oh Sorry, all of us, boys and beautiful lady. We all lived together here for the last 10 years. Before that, we 6 brothers Lambert, Geralt, August, Remus and Berengar and I, of course, went through a lot of trials and a lot of hardship. But look at us now! We are fully grown men, skilful and deadly"

As soon as Eskel said that someone whispered "Especially August"

Eskel showed a smirk and said it loud, "Yes, especially our August. We all lived through a lot, and I think it is worth being called brothers. Whatever others will say about you in the future or in the past, I will always cherish my brothers by the sword, by willpower, by home. I will never turn my back on any of you!"

He rose his glass filled with wine and shouted, " We will never turn our back on each other!"

Everyone present rose their glasses and shouted "Never"

Even always grumpy August and Geralt shouted along. Since this was their last day together, it may also be their last time seeing each other. Life is too unexpected to be sure that everyone will remain.

Everyone downed their glasses and filled them once more. This time, however, Lambert decided to stand up and say something to others.

He cleared his throat and said in a serious voice, "Everyone present here is someone I know very well. But I don't want to speak about sad stuff, let me wish all of you something. I wish for all of us bathing in gold, all of us to slay strong and ruthless monsters, wish for every one of us to have a lot of different in bed experiences, and I wish for some of us to stay beautiful as they are. Cheers!"

"Cheers" everyone once again down their glasses and called out for the next volunteer

Unexpectedly, the one to stand up for a toast was Nenneke. She stood and looked toward all the boys gathered around her. Taking a deep breath, she said,

"I'm proud of being one of your friends' boys. Sometimes you might be silly, sometimes you are just troublesome, but all the time I can be sure to trust you and leave my back open since I know there are people that will take care of it. I love you all individually boys, not like some man would like it to be, but I still love you all. You will always be welcomed here, it was a pleasure of having you here."

She spoke in a sincere voice with small tears gathering around her eyes. Her face changed from happy to sad, since she knew that this could be their last time seeing each other.

"I want to say those words before it gets too late. Goddess, bless them for luck and for love. I will pray that you never lose your path. I will pray so you never face incidents without an escape route. I pray that we will see each other once more…"

She didn't even drink a bit of wine before basically jumping on each of the boys, giving them a tight hug and a kiss on their cheeks. For Lambert, she even kissed him on his lips, but it was fast and almost invisible.

Next was Albert, who already was a bit drunk. He cried almost like a baby while saying, "Thank you, everyone. I love you no less than mother Nenneke. You were the ones that gave me an actual family that I lost. You were the ones that I will always call my big family and I will never shy away from being one of the Witchers from the School of Wolf. I will proudly say those words 'My family is Witchers from the School of Wolf'"

All of them proceed with a huge feast with a lot of alcohol and laughs that were coming from the heart of each of them.

August took a small part drinking and occasionally speaking before moving away from the small crowd and taking a seat on the ground looking at how others were having fun, a small tear run down his cheek as he said looking at the sky "Teacher you see this? I hope you do. We are alive and soon to be real monster slayers. It's sad that you never were able to take part in this."
