The Werewolf's Human Mate

Kayla Mac moved to a new city with her parents and started a new school where she met Lucas Gray; a dashingly handsome and very rich guy. Chapter 6

The punch landed on Derrick's jaw and he staggered back and growled not like a man but like a wolf. His werewolf must be so pissed. Derrick turned red with anger immediately. He drew back and clenched his first to land a blow on Lucas but Lucas saw it coming and he was fast. He moved out of Derrick's reach before his first could hit him. He stepped back gracefully like a cat and crouched down ready to defend himself.

Derrick clenched his jaw and Lucas could see a vein popping out of his forehead. He gritted his teeth and faced Lucas squarely ready to launch himself upon him. But before he could make the leap, a voice came from behind him

"Stop it"! The voice said. Both Lucas and Derrick turned back to see the Alpha standing at the entrance of the hall.

Derrick growled again out of anger but he withdrew his punch

His black eyes burned as he walked by Lucas' side.

"Tomorrow, at lake Maine, 6pm" he said in

Lucas's ear as he walked away. Derrick had set a date and place for their fight just like he once did when they were little. That was how Lucas had gotten the mark on his face. Derrick had brought a knife to a wolf fight and when Lucas was on him, he had slashed him with it. There hadn't really been any fixed rules about the fight and so Derrick had been justified. In lake Maine, they will have little distraction. The Alpha would not be there and they would be free to tear each other apart. Lucas stood still in the same spot after Derrick had gone. He turned then and his eyes met with that of the Alpha but there was nothing in them. The Alpha just looked at him with no emotion whatsoever in his eyes. Lucas turned and strode away too. He walked into his chambers and inside his room. He then flopped on the bed and signed.

Derrick had always been a thorn in his flesh.

He had always hated Lucas since they were little and Lucas himself had grown up to feel the same way about him. Lucas knew that it was because he was to be the next Alpha king of the Lucent pack and not Derrick. Derrick was just envious that Lucas was the chosen. It wasn't as if it was Lucas's fault. They had both been born the same day, himself and Derrick but Lucas was born first making him a few minutes older than Derrick. His own mother had been put to bed first and died shortly after delivery. She had been sick throughout the pregnancy so it was with fear that everyone looked at her. Derrick was angry because his own mother was the first mate and the true Luna but when their father had taken them both to the Pack's healer, he had consulted with the moon goddess and Lucas was ordained as the next Alpha.

Derrick had grown up bitter and with so much anger in his heart. He had hated Lucas as if he was the one that ordained himself. Lucas has become his enemy. Lucas knew that Derrick was greedy for the throne of the Alpha king but he also knew that he wouldn't make a good Alpha. He was too self centered to care much about the pack or about anyone for that matter. Under Derrick's rule, the pack would suffer. He has proven himself to be an uncaring and power obsessed person and maybe that was why he was not chosen by the moon goddess. After all, she was all knowing and would do only what's best for her people.

Lucas had no intention whatsoever to fight with Derrick but he knew that if he didn't he would be thought of as a coward and that was the worst thing anyone could possibly be in a pack of werewolves, especially an Alpha's son.

The whole pack would definitely hear of his cowardice if he refused to take up the challenge with Derrick. Derrick would make sure of that. He would do anything to defame Lucas' character and to prove to the people that he was a better Alpha than Lucas was.

Outside the Mansion, Derrick pretended to care about the pack and all of their activities. He attended all their meetings and was present in any ceremony. He was doing all of this to win the people's heart,

Lucas was aware but he knew that Derrick was not all he was pretending to be. Lucas had actually seen him come back home and complain about how stupid the wolfs are and how trivial their issues. He hated being with them and he once admitted spitefully that he was disgusted with the pack while talking to his friend, Rob. Rob was a Beta and he also did not like Lucas. Lucas had seen the cold stares he gives him whenever he sees him. It was odd that he could hate him just based on the words that Derrick tells him.

Lucas signed and thought about how awful the meeting with his father went. He had no intentions of killing Kayla and he knew he must do everything in his power to protect her from Derrick. It was not going to be easy as Derrick attends the same school as he does but he had to. He must not let Derrick see him with Kayla unless he would know that she was the one and waste no time in getting the job done.

The Alpha was not going to punish him if he did. Derrick could simply say that he was trying to make things easier for Lucas. He was a good liar and could buy anyone over with his lies. If Derrick succeeds in killing Kayla, there was nothing Lucas was going to be able to do afterwards. He likes her and did not want her to die just because of him. He remembered the story she had told him about herself and her parents just moving to Hill City. Imagine she was to die, her parents would never forgive themselves for bringing her here and Lucas would not be able to forgive himself either. It would be his fault that an innocent person died. Her death would have been on him. He must protect her at all cost and not let Derrick know who she is. He had taken Derrick's threat seriously as he knew what he was capable of. He was not ready for the Mayhem that Derrick was going to unleash if he had the chance.
