In the meantime, I lay on the bed curled up in Enid's arms, and clung to her as if letting go would be similar to giving my last breath.
Eventually, I fell asleep, and without a fault every single time I closed my eyes, the horrors and the hideous creatures that I saw made me jolt awake almost suddenly.
The door cracked open and Louis poked his head in, having a look around the room, until his eyes fell on Enid who sat on the bed with me in her arms.
He tiptoed his way to the bed seeing that Enid lifted her head to look who had entered the room.
" Boss said that I should report to you Mrs Pinslow." He politely said as his eyes fell on me, trembling in her arms as if I was cold.
Enid nodded, " I need you to fetch Dr Button for me. The girl seems to be having nightmares and has trouble sleeping. Once you've done that, I need you to cook lunch, and get the groceries. There is a list in the kitchen." She instructed and lay back on the bed next to me. Enid looked exhausted, maybe a little queasy. Louis nodded and left the room, a little reluctant.
When Mason stepped back into the room, with light footsteps he approached the bed and placed his hand on Enid's shoulder, to wake her up.
" Enid!" He worriedly called, clearing the drowsiness I was wallowing in. I wasn't awake but I wasn't asleep either, monging.
When Enid didn't answer Mason sighed and checked her breathing, then her pulse and heaved out a heavy breath of relief. I wondered who Enid was to him. He seemed caring and respectful around her.
Enid whimpered in her sleep and groaned in pain and I finally pushed myself up on my elbow, worried that she wasn't well and I was to blame for it.
" Good morning, Mason. I see that you haven't made it to bed, yet." The physician commented while stepping inside the room.
" I was just about to come and get you. How are you here?" Mason retorted following the man with his eyes around the room.
" Enid sent for me. It appears that the girl is having nightmares and I come bearing gifts." The physician said with a smile shaking a bottle with some white tablets in it. I didn't know what was in it but I surely hoped it would stop whatever I had.
" It's the good stuff." he continued while taking his tools out of his bag and making his way to the bed to check on me.
" It's good that you're here. I don't think Enid is feeling well either." Mason said as he approached the bed along with the physician.
Mr Button hummed " I'll cheek on her too. Since I'm already here and I have already seen more of you than I would've wanted." he jokingly said, patting Mason's arm.
" Dr Button, it's not like I spend my days waiting for us to cross paths." He smirked while waving his hand towards me and Enid.
" Check on Enid, first." he requested, stepping aside to let him do his job.
Dr Button nodded and began checking on Enid. Even though she was asleep he could check on her general health.
" Hello, Enid! How are you feeling?" Dr Button asked when Enid opened her eyes, letting go of her hand so he can focus on asking her about her symptoms.
" Dizzy and I have chest pain, and in my shoulder." She huffed, out of breath as if she had run for miles.
" Have you taken your medication today? The one that I gave you a while ago. The one that keeps your heart ticking." He asked, observing her expressions. Enid looked queasy and on the verge of fainting.
Enid shook her head and Dr Button turned around to his bag, rummaging through it and came back with a bottle filled with tablets.
" You have to take your medication, Enid. Remember what I told you. Without it, you'll leave this one alone." He jokingly said while pointing at Mason with his thumb and winking at Enid.
Mason shook his head in disapproval and sauntered to the table, returning with a glass of water so Enid can take her medicine.
" While Dr Button checks on Lily. You should have some rest yourself. I will look after her while you take a break." Mason said in a firm tone, it wasn't negotiable. I didn't quite feel comfortable staying in a room with him alone but I didn't want to be alone either. Enid needed to rest.
Enid nodded, gently peeled the rest of me off her and pushed herself off the bed with Mason's help and left the room along with him.
Not long after Mason and Enid left the room, I slipped back on the bed and dozed off again while the physician filled out his paperwork. I felt better knowing that there was a competent professional in the same room with me.
But my little run down with sleep didn't last very long, and I was jolted awake by yet another frightening nightmare.
" Help!" I rasped, frightened and looked around the room trying to find a glimmer of what I fell asleep to.
I was relieved when Dr Button raised his head and half turned in his seat to look at me, with curious eyes.
" Help?" He echoed back my word a little intrigued, as to why I was asking for help. Once again I didn't know how to answer a simple question. Tell the truth? No. A padded room awaited me. I quickly talked myself out of it for the nth time.
" Where is the nice lady?" I asked, pushing myself against the headboard and hugging my knees. I didn't how long had passed and I wondered how long I'd been asleep.
" She is unwell. She is resting." He calmly answered he could see that I was getting agitated. So, not that long. It felt longer.
" What do you need help with?" he returned to his previous question while going around the bed to get closer to me.
" Did someone hurt you?" he continued asking questions as he sat on the edge of the bed.
" I- I -I don't know," I said in the same wavering voice, unsure if it was wise to speak about what plagued me without sounding like I'd gone insane. I wasn't sure if anyone would believe me.
Dr Button narrowed his eyes at me " Miss, you can tell me. I promise you that I would do my best to help you." He said in a calm voice trying his best to sound as convincing as possible.
Mason walked back into the room and interrupted the exchange between Dr Button and me while his eyes fell on me, resting against the headboard. I felt a little better.
