Chapter 3

The old man groaned a little as soon as the paste touched the wound. 'It seems like the paste doesn't feel too good to get on your wounds; then again, does anything?' Einar couldn't help but think so, seeing the older man's expression.

It was now time for him to look at the 'Low-level medicine crafting' book, so he hopefully could heal the old man quicker.

As he read through the book, he was quite surprised. He was finding all of this very interesting. However, it was all getting very complicated the further into the book he got. 'I wonder when I can do all this' he couldn't help think this to himself.

For now, though, he found a medicine he could already make that would be proficient in healing the old man. It needed the plant he had used before Iosnilpos and another plant he had seen out at the pond called Ukralfon.

Ukralfon was a tall plant with a yellow and brownish stalk. The plant's flower was a bright red, so it looked quite imitating. He read in the book, it looked like this, so it could scare off animals that might eat it. Einar knew better, though, so he grabbed it and started processing that and the Iosnilpos flower into the medicine the old man needed.

After standing at the research table for a few hours and failing the medicine a few times, Einar was getting agitated. He wanted to save the old man, who had saved him before. He once again gave it a try, slowly, following every step the book showed him. He made it to the final step once again, which is the step he had been failing on until now.

He knew now exactly what he had been doing wrong until now, and this time he would do it right. He was confident that the medicine would not be a failed object this time, he was confident that he could treat the old man. He didn't want to be useless, the savior of his life.

As all of these thoughts were running through his head, an aroma of medicine went through the small shed. Einar had successfully done the last step, and the medicine was made perfectly.

He looked at the medicine, with an excited expression. He was so happy, he was close to tears by now. He had failed so many times, and this was the try he was pouring everything he had into. If this had failed, he would have lost his hope.

He looked down at the brownish juices he had made, it looked disgusting, but to him, it was beautiful. He had made his first real medicine, and it was medicine to save his savior's life.

He hurried to grab the medicine and walked over to the old man. He wanted to give it to the old man as soon as possible, so he did so the instant he arrived by the old man.

"I really hope this can save you, old man!" He murmured this in a low voice, with a great amount of hope.

After he had made the medicine for the old man, he had nothing to do. So all he could do right now was to live. That was not a problem, since there was plenty of food in the trees at the pond, and the water in the pond was drinkable.

He couldn't help but think back at the village he grew up in. How the monster came into the village and slaughtered all of the people there, and how the old man had said it was destroyed. He had no idea what he could do.

This all made him both sad and angry. Seeing how helpless he was against one monster, 'What can I do if ten of them come? Should I just accept fate?' Einar started to think, was he really a coward like that? 'NO! I have to get stronger! I don't want more of my loved ones to die!' Einar had found the resolve, the resolve to get stronger.

He did not want to see more of these monsters slaughter people, it was too much. "How ... How do I get stronger though?" he muttered in a small voice, he had nothing and no one who could help him. Did he really have to do everything on his own?

"I might be able to help with that, kid." Suddenly Einar heard an aged voice coming from behind him. He was quite surprised, so he turned around. He saw the old man sitting in the bed.

"Y-You're awake!?!" Einar was surprised, he had given the old man the medicine a few hours ago, but he thought it would take days for him to wake up.

"Yeah, thanks to you it seems." He said so, as he looked down at the paste on his body.

Einar had no idea how to respond to that, he was just happy to see the old man alive. He was quite worried about the old man. All he could do was smile at the old man.

"Thank you, kid! It would have taken days for me to wake up if not for you." The old man was quite calm and smiled back at Einar.

Einar was surprised by the words of the old man, does this mean that the old man was actually never in mortal danger. One could clearly see how shocked he was on his face.

"HAHA, did you really think your savior would die by such a small wound?" The old man found this quite funny. "By the way, sorry for ignoring you before kid, I was caught up in an important experiment! which seems to have failed!" The old man looked down at the wound which had healed on his chest.

'He is quite the chatterbox I see!' He could not help but think so, seeing as he himself had barely talked. "Don't mind it, you sure you okay?" He was still a little worried for him.

"Don't worry about me kid!" The old man looked at Einar, he was actually happy to have another person worry about him.

Einar looked at the old man closely and found that the wounds had already closed. This was quite a surprise to him, that is almost supernatural. "Okay then, I won't" He gave a smile to the old man.

"What is your name, kid?" The old man said with an old man's smile.

"My name is Einar and you old man?" Einar gave a small smile, since the old man called him kid, he called him an old man.

"I am called Jayes!" Jayes said with a small smile, he felt close to the kid already.

Einar also felt really close to Jayes. It might be because Einar was saved by him, but he just felt some kind of connection. Jayes was also the open type it seemed, who loved to talk to people.

"Old man, you said something about helping me to get stronger, right?" Einar wanted to get stronger as soon as possible. So he asked him straight after all the formalities was over.

"I can yes, but only on one condition!" His face got serious when he said this, like it was something grave.

"What is it then, old man?" Einar would not back down no matter what it was.

"You have to become my disciple!" He said that with a grave tone like it was something no one wanted.

"Okay, sure I will do it!" Einar answered in the instant the Jayes said it.

"R-really?" Jayes was shocked.

"Yeah, I will be your disciple, old man!" Einar looked at him with a bright smile. He was honestly excited about this. It seemed like the old man had a lot of knowledge, looking at all the books he had.

"Okay, then let's get started!" Jayes was so excited.

He had been looking for a suitable disciple for many years by now, and he had never been able to find anyone. Every time he found someone he found interesting, they were turning him away like he was some beggar. He wore ragged clothes after all, and his hair and beard looked like no one had taken care of it for years.

when he saw the medicine that Einar had made to stop the bleeding and infection from his wound and felt the medicine Einar had made him drink. He was impressed by the boy. he first thought that Einar might have had no training before, until he looked to the research table at that time, and saw the two beginner books there.

Einar had learned how to make medicine in less than a day, this was something that rarely happened. He might not understand the things behind medicine, but he understands the principles. This means he has the talent to be a great alchemist like he himself were.

"You want to get stronger right?" Jayes looked at Einar with a serious look.

Einar could only nod at this question.

"Good, I am a mage and an alchemist myself! I want you to choose your own path though!" The old man looked at Einar with a more serious look now. "So in the beginning, I will not train you in magic, I will work on your foundation for every fighting style, your body!"

He proceeded to tell Einar all that would happen to him, and how it would happen. He would get his body trained both outside, working out as any other guy would, and inside in medicinal baths. Which was something that would never happen to him in the old village.

The second thing was, he was now the disciple of an alchemist. So he would have to learn how to make medicine, medicinal pills, poison, and so on. This was a very prestigious job to have.

He would not get any medicinal baths before he can make them himself, before that Jayes told him he was not ready for such a luxury. Einar was very happy with all this, and so his training had begun.
