Chapter 73 Jeff and Stacy

Jeff and Stacy had been together since the beginning of the apocalypse. They had both been working together in a cafe and were coworkers. When the dead started rising, they had been working a shift.

Luckily the Cafe was in an old building, the building was made a brick and had a sturdy wooden door. So, they were able to hide in there for a while.

They had grown close to each other as they had been left alone when everyone else started hurrying out of the cafe. They had been friends for a couple years and they already knew about each other. With the stressful situation they found themselves in, it didn't take long for them to develop feelings for each other

They manage to stay in the cafe for about 2 weeks before they had to leave. Jeff had broken a mop and taped a knife to it, crafting a makeshift spear. Jeff made 2 of these just in case Stacy had to fight off a shambler, while he was fighting another.

All the food they had left was some energy bars and chips, they had eaten all of the baked goods and lunch meats within the store already. When Jeff had finished calming down a panicked Stacy, they walked over to the door.

Opening the door, a crack, Jeff looked out and saw that the coast was relatively clear. This made sense as they lived in a small town, the population was only around 550 people.

In front of the Cafe was a main road that ran all the way through the town. Walking out slowly, they looked around. The road was empty, which was pretty normal, as they were on the outskirts of the town. Seeing that there were no shamblers anywhere near them at the moment, Jeff and Stacy were able to calm their beating hearts.

Taking a deep breath, Jeff started walking left down the street keeping his guard up. Stacy stayed right next to him, and she felt better knowing he was here.

They walked down the street for about half a block and arrived at a small store. They knew the owner of this place; it was a nice old lady that would always give any kids that came in a piece of candy.

They walked towards the entrance slowly as they observed the area, there was no visible shambler to be seen through the front windows. Walking through the door, producing a jingling sound, both of them froze as they forgot about the bells. Their heartbeat intensified as they looked around quickly.

They froze when they saw the pale face of the old lady looking at them as she walked towards them slowly. Jeff pointed his spear at her, he said, "Stop!" The lady did not stop however, she kept coming towards them.

John got nervous and his hands started sweating, but protecting Stacy was more important to him. He aimed and thrusted forward, trying to stab the head, as in the news they had seen the shamblers taken down with a shot to the head. He missed the head however and hit the chest.

He pulled back with force, but the makeshift spear broke. Jeff cursed as he kicked the shambler back. It fell to the floor, it immediately started trying to stand but Stacy gave Jeff the other spear and he stepped on the shambler's chest, before he drove the spearhead deep into its chest.

With that situation finished, both Jeff and Stacy released a heavy breath. They then looked around the store and saw plenty of food. They moved a desk that was in the back room and barricaded the door with it.

They then sat down together and tried to calm themselves. Hugging each other close helped. After a couple minutes, Jeff started to look around inspecting different areas of the store. Jeff walked over behind the cash register and started opening drawers of the counter.

Jeff search for a while before he found a small revolver and a box of ammo for it. The bow was almost full, only missing six bullets. Jeff inspected the gun for a while, it was a S&W .357 Magnum. After looking at it for a while, he stuck it in the back of his pants.

Jeff then walked over to Stacy and began talking to her. Stacy was still a little panicked and she was having a very hard time adjusting. She was just a small-town girl with a big ass heart. Meanwhile, Jeff was from Atlanta, he had lived there for most of his childhood, but he had moved here when he got older to get away from the city.

Jeff comforted her as he looked outside, it was starting to get dark. They had left the Cafe quite late as it had taken a long time for them to build up their courage. Jeff and Stacy lay down together on a blanket they found in one of the sections of the store. Usually, tourists passing through would buy these, sometimes they needed a blanket for the road.

The next day, Jeff said, "We need better weapons, I think the fire station or police station would be a good place to look."

Stacy said, "Can't we just stay here? We have all the food we need."

Jeff shook his head and said, "We need more weapons if we want to be safe from those walking corpses." Stacy nodded slowly.

John continued, "You don't need to come with me."

Stacy said shocked, "Are you leaving me alone? No! Please don't, please." She started to sob as she hugged Jeff.

Jeff said, "Okay, we go together then. We will never split up. Promise?"

Stacy nodded and looked up, tears still in her eyes. She said, "Promise." Then she kissed him with vigor. A while later she backed away with a smile on her face.

Jeff smiled back before he said, "We'll go after we eat. Also, I have something to show you."

Stacy asked, "What is it?" Jeff pulled out the revolver and Stacy eyes widened. She said, "Where did you get that?"

Jeff said, "I found it behind the cash register, in one of the drawers. We don't have to worry too much, now that we have this."

Stacy said, "Yeah, we'll be okay." Stacy then hugged Jeff before she got up off the floor. She walked towards the bathroom, and went in.

Jeff watched her go in before he walked around and grabbed something to eat. Jeff grabbed something Stacy liked too before he sat at the table and waited for Stacy. Stacy came out a while later and her hair was fixed, and her face was clean of tears. Jeff thought, 'What a baddie. Haha.'

Stacy walked over and sat beside him, and they began to eat, Stacy smiled when she saw the stuff Jeff had brought for her. She looked at Jeff deeply for a second thinking, 'How did I never notice this man before? He is so reliable and strong." Stacy then started to eat her breakfast slowly, savoring her instant noodles.
