Daren

"I'm sorry, Daren, but we are going to have to let you go." A big, slightly pudgy man was behind a desk said while staring at a gloomy and depressed looking middle-aged man sitting in a chair. "Why!? What have I done wrong!? I have been working like a slave for you but your still firing me!?" To the middle-aged man's statement, the pudgy man couldn't help but reveal a pained expression. "Look, Daren. It's not that I want to fire you but, I have to. The costumers have complained about how difficult it is to eat in my restaurant when you look so gloomy and depressed at the register. I will be forced to close down my restaurant at this rate."

Daren became even more depressed when he heard this. Damn it! Why must this happen again and again?! This is my tenth job but yet I still can't seem to hold it? Daren has never had any luck in life. Actually, that is not true. he has had one stroke of luck. His wife, Carey. They have been in a relationship for fifteen years now. Sadly, even that is a rickety bridge right now. She has threatened to get a divorce multiple times through out their marriage, but she never truly goes though with it. So, Daren doesn't believe she will ever go through with it. The storm will pass is what he has always believed

Thinking about Carey, Daren sighed. "I wonder how she will react when I tell her I lost my job." Thinking this, Daren slowly got up and exited from his bosses office, looking even more gloomier than normal. Seeing this, his boss started to be hesitant. "Daren isn't a bad guy at all, it's just that he is rather unlucky. Should I try to keep him and train him to be a chef? No, his gloominess will affect the moral of the chefs and in turn will affect the quality and speed of the meal being prepared... Shit, I need to stop being such a softy. The road to owning a restaurant is a rough one and I will need to let go of more employees like Daren if I am going to try to bring my business to the top." A resolute glint flashed in the owner's as he no longer looked back a Daren's disappearing figure.

Seeing Daren exit the boss's office, a few of the kind employees tried to cheer Daren up, but he didn't hear any of it. Right now, the only thing on his mind was how to explain to his wife why he got fired and how he would make it up to her. He slowly walked to his car, unlocked it, then slowly got in and drove out of the parking lot. Daren was never a drunk but, now suddenly he wished to buy a bottle of whiskey and chug it down and drown in his sorrows, but right now, Daren knew he shouldn't. He threw that thought to the back of his head and started to think of a gift he should get for his wife.

He suddenly awakened from his train of thought and he saw a flower shop as he was passing by. "Roses would be a perfect gift!" Daren smiled at this idea and decided to stop at the flower shop. He opened the door and was hit buy a massive wave of fragrance. He lovingly smelled the air and continued to walk into the store . He didn't have much time to admire the flowers so he picked up half a dozen roses a and looked that the price and was shocked. "Twenty dollars for six god damn roses!? Are you joking?" Daren only had 20 dollars on him and that was for his dinner. He thought for a while then gritted his teeth, paid for them and left. "This is all worth it if I can get forgiveness!"

Daren was still thinking about what to say to his wife when he realized he already arrived in front of his house. He took a deep breath, grabbed his roses, and started to walk to his house. The lights weren't on, which was very unusual because it was only 6 pm. With a strange feeling in his heart he walked up to the dark apartment and called out his wife's name. "Carey?" The only thing that responded to him was silence. Daren started to feel scared. He turned on the lights and rushed inside of his house."Carey, where are you!?" Daren ran into the kitchen, just in case she left a note behind. Thankfully, he saw a note sitting right on top of the table in the middle of the kitchen. He hurridly picked it up and stared to read it.

"I'm sorry, Daren, but I can no longer handle this any more. I'm tired of this life and there is nothing you can change about it. I never wanted things to end up this way. I'll be on he second floor. Goodbye, Daren"

Daren looked blankly at the note. His hands started to tremble. He read in between the lines and he could tell what was upstairs. None the less, he slowly walked towards the stairs. He then proceeded to slowly walk up them with trembling legs. "No! Please no! God, I beg of you, Don't let what I am thinking be true, PLEASE!!" Sadly, when he got to the top of steps, what he saw made him turn soulless. His wife hanging from a rope that was attached to the ceiling. She was dead. Daren, at this point, felt complete emptiness . It was like his entire world had been destroyed. Suddenly, rage exploded out like a volcano. "WHY!? WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY?!?!?! CARRRREEEYYYYY!!!!! Daren lost control and started to destroy everything in sight. "I LOVED YOU SO MUCH AND THIS IS HOW YOU REPAY MY LOVE!?!?!? SCREW YOU!!!!" Finally, after Daren destroyed everything he could, he started to cry. In all of the years he has lived, he never cried once. This moment truly broke him. He walked down stairs, grabbed a bottle of whiskey, and drank a forth of the bottle in one swig. After a while, he started to reminisce about his whole life.

This is my first novel so take it easy on me. Hope you enjoy. I was not sure what I should make this book about so I decided to use a way too original plot. Don't worry, I'll add a twist. ;) Oh yeah, the amount of chapters released will depend on on the comments. Basically, I'm making it extremely vague so that if I decide not to post a chapter, I'll just shamelessly blame on ya'll :) Also this will not be a extremely sad novel, OK? Just this chapter and the next one.
