Purple eyes

Cody and I walk to the basketball court after a short visit to the cafeteria; my lips suck the juice with the straw from the juice box, Cody and I walk side by side, he nibbles on the sandwich he bought from the cafeteria.

It's usually only the two of us coming to play basketball over here, but as we reach the court someone is dribbling the basketball towards the basket opposite to where we are standing in the court. He jumps a little higher and throws the ball in the basket; as he turns around catching the ball falling from the basket, Zavier's eyes meet mine. We hold each other's gazes, there is something unusual about his golden_ brown eyes it makes an uneasy an uneasy feeling in my gut.

"We want the basketball" Cody speaks beside me grabbing his attention and our staring contest ends.

"And why should I give it to you" he puts one of his hands in his pocket turns the basketball around in the other hand.

"We want to practice for our upcoming tournament" I confront him

"So do I" his attention turns back to me and the staring contest continues

"We can practice together" we both look at Cody with disgust as if he just threw up all over the ball.

"I have an offer to make"

"Go ahead "I look at him with the exact amount of smugness he is looking at me

"let's have a match, you two against me, whoever wins gets to decide who plays here for the next month "

"Count us in" Cody agrees for both of us

Three of us get into position, me and Cody together against him, he's so done.

"Here you can start" he throws the basketball towards me and before I can register what's happening the ball comes right at my face. BAAM! Have you ever tried playing throw ball with the basketball, if not then I would like to give a piece of advice 'don't ever try'

I rub the part of my head he had attacked; it was hurting like crazy as if it would just explode any second now. How dare he throw the ball on my face? Anger bubbling inside me I throw him a death glare, inhaling I close my eyes and exhale.

When I open my eyes, they look at me as if they have seen a ghost, my eyes question them,

Finally, Cody speaks "Aerial… y_your eyes....."

".....they turned purple" Zavier completes his sentence.

I give them the exact strange look they were giving me "might have been a reflection of the sun"

They both look at each other than look at me and then each other.

"Maybe" Cody nods still in a daze

"But...….. It was violet" Zavier questions

"Let's just continue the game" I try to divert their attention from me

We take back our position and this time Zavier starts. The match begins.

He was enough for two of us but we weren't any less every time he tried to take the ball from me I passed it to Cody, his moves were impressive, he would swipe the ball right from under our nose and we wouldn't even know. The girls cheered for Cody and Zavier and were most probably jealous of me; the match went on until a loud whistle almost damaged our eardrums.

It was our P.e teacher's whistle- a whistle that I bet the goats in the mountain could even hear.

"Break times over kiddos" he literally shouts in our faces.

We ran away from him in a flash from there.

"It was a tie," I say when we stop in the courtyard to catch our breaths

"Let's play alternate days one day you both can play and the day I will" he offers

"I agree" Cody speaks and goes in the other direction.

The rustling of leaves, chirping of crickets, footsteps, heartbeats, kind of noises that you can block by burying your head under the pillows but that wasn't my case, I've been lying here for past hundred hours and I still can't fall asleep. I've tried to study-that usually makes me sleep- but I just can't sleep with all those background voices, ugh.

It feels like every sound was amplified, and as if the world was plotting against. The main question is how can I hear the heartbeats of my parents through walls, how the hell am I able to hear people strolling on the roads. What kind of joke is this?

I did fall asleep for a minute, but then I saw myself with purple eyes, smirking mischievously my hair flying behind me and I woke up from that bad dream. I looked like a monster ready to kill someone; I couldn't bear it anymore and woke up.

My blanket pools around me on the ground when I stand up-who knew blanket falling on the ground could also make noise. The door of the washroom opens with a loud creaky voice- or maybe it's just my ears.

I continuously splash my face with cold water, to wake up from this living nightmare. Someone in the distance an owl hoots together with a night keeper blowing his whistle. Those two noises mixed together they reach my ears as a loud shriek of someone whose soul is being snatched from his body a sound that can tear your own soul apart from your body a sound that can make you deaf. Tears spill from my eyes, my head bursts into pain-nails being hammered in my head. I sit on the floor hugging my knees: I put my head on my knees wishing it would all go away.

Anger boils inside me, against what but anger a lot of anger stirs inside me. I stand up clutching the washbasin my head bowed down, I hear the tears rolling down from my cheeks and splashing on the floor.

I look up in the mirror and see it........

I see sorrowful eyes; the water in them shines under the light; those eyes stare deep in my eyes; those eyes...….

Those eyes are purple

The reflection in the mirror is mine but those eyes

Those eyes aren't mine or are they
