"Mom..." Anastasia called out, stepping into the house. It felt unusually quiet. Earlier, Diya had replied to her texts, saying everything was fine. But when Daniel tried calling her in the car, she hadn't picked up.
"Diya?" she tried again as she made her way upstairs. Maybe they were in her mother's room? She opened the door, but it was empty.
Anastasia's heart raced as she headed to her own room. "Mom? Diya?" Her voice echoed in the silence, but there was no answer, just the unsettling quiet all around her.
Hurrying downstairs, Anastasia rushed to the kitchen. She had already checked it earlier but wanted to make sure she hadn't overlooked anything. The silence was starting to feel overwhelming.
"Daniel, Daniel…" Panic set in as she fumbled for her phone, quickly dialling Daniel's number. Her heart pounded as she waited, but there was no answer. The call went to voicemail, only adding to her growing fear.
