“Hey Ethan, I was wondering, how did you follow me when you left the village before I did?” She said curious as they rode north.
“I left my house early and hid in the woods outside of town, waiting for you to pass so I could follow you from there.”
“So, you were there watching me say goodbye to my dad and Uncle Micah?”
“I wasn’t eavesdropping or anything. I could see you there, but I was too far away to hear anything. I just know that the elders and Micah were waiting for you when you got to the edge of the barrier.” He said matter-of-factly.
“But you said that you knew the elders were there to make sure that I left alone, how did you know that?” She wondered.
“I heard Nikolas’s outburst at their interruption? He wasn’t happy that they were there was he? Also, I think he said it that loudly because he could tell I was nearby, and he wanted me to make sure I wasn’t found out.”
“He knew you were there?”
“Possibly, I don’t know for sure.”
