Death

For each day a corn plant would be destroyed. It didn't matter if the plants were sprayed with a strong vinegar solution or if cayenne was applied to the stalks of the plants. THEY WERE EATEN! I became so frustrated to the point where at the end of each day I would fall asleep to grind my teeth. One day a packet of unknown seeds came from China. I continued to garden and planted various seeds. On another day there was more damage to the plants and I became so incensed I cut peppermint gum and tossed them in each plant hole. The next day three corn plants were gnawed and uprooted. One plant had no chance of recovery and I had to uproot it. I then dug up all the seeds I planted from China that I planted in one hole. In the corner of my eye I saw a brown blur stuck between the two layers of deer netting. I pounced on it. Picking it up I examined it. MOUSE. I felt his struggle and rapidly beating heart in my hand. I pondered "To keep him alive or to kill?" I made a fast decision as he was trying to hit me with his feet and then snapped his neck. I tossed him over the fence as an example for any other rodents who even contemplated visiting the garden. That night I slept much better than I did for the past two months knowing that my corn plants would have one less predictor preying on them while I slept.
