THE PURSUIT

Like a menacing rhythm announcing the next round of mayhem, the SUVs' deep rumble sent a shiver down my spine. I gasped as I saw the black convoy approaching us at full speed and showing no indications of slowing down. Their sleek, predatory, and unstoppable appearance was enhanced by the glitter of sunshine from their polished exteriors.

With a hint of panic in my voice, I said, "Ethan." "They're pursuing us."

He staggered to his feet, gritting his teeth and leaning on the car's edge for support. Even though his shirt was stained with blood, his hand grabbed mine with a tight hold. "We won't allow them to catch us."
