GOING DOWN INTO THE SHADOWS
As Amelia vanished into the woods, Ethan and I sped in the other direction, attempting to put as much distance as possible between us and our assailants. Every stray ray of moonlight appeared to be swallowed by the pitch-black darkness that enveloped us as the forest's thick shadows closed in. The excitement rushing through my body overcame the cold, despite the night air being harsh and stinging. My pulse echoed in the great emptiness around us, loud and rhythmic in my ears.
