Eleonore’s POV
Bastian’s screams, I don’t think, would ever leave me. There were precious little things I think I’d ever forget in my lifetime. I would always remember the way the tires of my parents’ car screeched as they came into the driveway the night they died. I will always remember the last thing I said as I called out to them and last my voice.
And finally, I will always remember Bastian telling me to run and get away as he lay bleeding on that stone tablet. I tried to reach him, of course, I did, but much like before, it seemed like the harder and faster I ran, the rest of the world seemed to run with me. And because of that, I only ever stayed in place.
Finally, I stopped running. I stopped trying to reach him, and the world stopped moving, and Bastian‘s screams halted.
