Chapter Two

I sat looking out the window of the car taking in the new environment. I thought we will be moving very far from our previous house but it turns out that it's just a few bus stops from where we were before, still, this road seems quiet and it's beginning to pique my curious mind of mine.

The streets look colourful but no light in them, no convenience stores here, it doesn't look like I could get a quick snack around here, I am used to eating junk, no football field, this place looks lame, why does it look so colourful if it doesn't have all the perks.

What was my dad thinking about getting an apartment in an area like this, those shining things are just for show, I was already losing interest in what was supposed to be a change.

Stop a while my mother said to the driver, I would like to get something I heard her say but I wasn't interested in seeing what she wanted to buy, I could guess easily from the smell of steamed corn, I was still fuming when I saw something flash in front of me. I had to stretch out to see a young girl my age running down the road, she ran so fast that I thought she would split. Can her body take that kind of pace I wonder, I thought I was skinny but she beat me to it and what was that about her skin, she looks like a yellow breed.

I thought that the Asians were the ones with yellow skin, but hers seems too bright, she looks sickly but no sick person runs that fast and that way. The fascinating creature I thought as she smiled unbridled to the woman she was speaking to. I think she felt someone looking at her or was it the woman who told her she'd turned into a movie star, she turned and gave me that heartwarming smile, I tried for a cool and collected one back but am not used to it and before we could exchange words my mother was done with her purchase and we drove off.
