The Fourth: Kenzie(1)

I was playing minecraft with Miss Matiana again, she was somewhat old but very fin to talk to, sje jad so many stories to tell, and we had at this point built an interesting house out of red and Grey terracotta, and there were many rooms, almost like my old orphanage, each one had a bed, a nightstand from a mod we got, it came with a shader that made the rooms look dark from all the spruce and dark oak, it also made for some reason only these rooms look almost like real life. Maybe it was because most of the items there were cubist anyway, and the lamps were made more so a rectangle, just like the ones in my house. I loved the flowery designs on these lampshades better than the faded yellow ones we had though. I smiled a little as I remembered someone else who would've loved the design, then shook myself of the rest of that memory, it wasn't a good one. I went to the farm to get a bit more meat and wool, we were making the master bedroom with the massive bed, the mod helped with connecting beds into larger beds, which is very convenient for a build like this, Miss Matiana was talking about how one of her grandkids killed a bunny with a sling and they were so proud that they cooked it with their best seasonings and let him eat as much as he wanted.

"his parents were poor so he wasn't always able to eat until he was filled." she explained.

I just kinda smiled and made a slight "hm..." she knew it meant I found the story intriguing, and went on about this and that while we were gathering materials, and I just listened, because it really never got old hearing about everything, amd the emotion she had from actually living it made it that much better. Half way through her current story, she choked up a bit, she was talking about her granddaughter.

"what is it?" I asked

"she... she..." she kind of took a breath before continuing, "she went with- well, by herself to- well no matter, she died.."

" I am so sorry..." I said, my voice breaking a little too.

"it really wasn't your fault." she said, and I could hear a smile in her voice.

"I just meant I am sorry that happened," I said, a little confused at her choice of words.

"oh, yes, sorry, I know dear." she seemed to snap out of some kind of reminiscence as she said this, and continued on talking about updates and how she was around when the game first came out like nothing had happened.

I heard mother calling me and told Miss Matiana that I had to go, and quickly left the game to help mother.

"yes mom?" I had made my way to our kitchen through our all too empty seeming, yet spacious house, and was now facing my mother.

"don't you remember? we have an appointment to go to." mother sighed, rolling her eyes a little.

I didn't have any appointments to go to this weekend, so I responded, "no, mother I don't remember planning any appointments, besides, I feel fine, why should I have to go to the doctor?"

"tsk, tsk, tsk, honey, who said anything about a doctor? how could you forget something so important?"

I still had no idea what she was talking about, but instead of making a fuss I just said: "oh, right. of course! how could I forget." I stepped into my shoes and headed towards the door, waiting for mother.

mother walked out the door and we got in the car, driving for what felt like hours upon hours, then finally arriving in town. I looked out the windows, seeing the waving man at the car dealership, though they must have been out of cars for the day because there were none in the parking lot. we drove past the movie theater, though it was also empty, no movies announced on the signs, no man manning the ticket booth. the Walmart had cars in the lot, but no carts, and the lights were all off in the building.

"are we almost there?"

"soon enough... have patience, child."

I waited for us to get there, and must have nodded off. because I closed my eyes for a moment, then was at the nice building for my appointment.
