The Tale of Night Prince

A boy, who took his last breath after fulfilling the 'promise' made to someone he used to respect long ago, suddenly got another chance to live in a different world. However, he wasn't the only one to get such an opportunity, 19 others were also selected along with him. He doesn't know that if the chance given to him is just a game for someone or has another deeper purpose, as the only instruction he got was 'Survive'. But still, he will... ***** There will be adventure, world travel, and slight romance in this story. ***** Currently I am editing the chapters and story, so I recommend reading only the edited ones. ***** The upload rate will be around 1 chapter every 6-8 days. And word count will around 7-10 thousand words per chapter. I don't own anything other than my originals. English is my second language. The cover image is taken from https://pin.it/5GBfgrl Please inform me if you own it and want it to be removed.

Power System

I have written and posted this Power System, but personally I would suggest reading it from the chapters. Why? Well, even though I have tried to make this not too boring, info dumps in stories have always been boring for me.

I won't say that I am the first to use this Power System, but after some thinking and research, I think this can include all types of the world, from cultivation novels to systems to magic to science to even the power of 'Oppai' owned by Issei of DXDverse.

I hope this doesn't disappoint you, and obviously, if anyone of you feels something is wrong or confusing then I am open to the reviews as well as suggestions.

And yes, one more thing before I start explaining the power system:

In no case, I will ever give a 'Major Powers' to the MC and his team that might get nerfed due to him traveling to the other world. Why? Well, because I just hate the plot in which MC gets nerfed. Yeah, I completely agree that there are some great plots with MC getting nerfed in the middle of the story, but, personally, I am just unable to make myself accept it.

Also, nerfing absolutely doesn't include something like Ash (MC's companion with dark element affinity) fighting near a Star and her darkness is unaffected by the light created by the nuclear reactions in the star.

************

Below I have mentioned world tiers along with the power system, but instead of just explaining the power levels, I have also tried to explain the reason behind the division. Why? Well, because even though perceiving power levels just by the color of mana or counting the number of wings makes it extremely simple and easy to understand, I always feel this is somewhat ... incomplete? Therefore I have tried explaining the reason behind it.

_____________

LAW / ORIGIN / DAO

In the multiverse, each and every world is run by some rules like gravity, the attraction between two masses; Mass–energy equivalence, indicating mass and energy are interconvertible; and many others. Although almost every world knows about at least a few of these rules, only the creatures of higher tier worlds are able to directly harness it.

Along with the different world and culture comes different names and ways of explaining these Laws, for example, cultivation worlds call it as Heavenly Dao and Martial Dao; sword and magic world call it as Origin Magic or Root or Divinity of Gods; technological worlds call it as Laws or Rules of the world, and these aren't only names out there.

To climb the ladder of power any creature must make contact with Laws and even own it, but how can something like this be attained without taking risks as well as spending one hell of an effort; effort is a different matter but for the risks faced with learning Laws, there are two major ones.

First, any individual wanting to own 'Laws' need to get it from somewhere, and the source of 'Law' is the world itself; however the process of snatching the 'Laws' from the world wounds it; although this wound is mostly recoverable, the world will obviously counterattack on the mortal trying to hurt it and there is no way any individual can easily contend against a world.

Second, even after someone crossed the first hurdle and successfully snatched the 'Laws' from the world, the crisis hasn't completely disappeared, as those were originally part of the world and unless the individual owning them completely separates it from the world, which is an almost impossible task even for Tier 8 beings, those 'Laws' tries to return into the world, but the problem here is that this has become part of the individual who stole it from the world, so if this 'Law' successfully returned to the world in most cases the consciousness of its owner gets assimilated with the world; in short, that individual dies.

Now comes the question, what are 'Laws' like? How many are there? Is one superior to the other?

Well, theoretically there is an infinite number of Laws because any object or concept that exist in the world has a corresponding law for it to exist in the world, for a few simple examples, fire exists because of Fire Laws, heat transfer happens because of Heat Laws, things burn because of Combustion Laws.

Similar laws also exist for other elements like Laws of water, ice, freezing, or Laws of wind, fluid, storm, and this continues on forming an endless list.

Those were just elemental Laws, other concepts also have laws related to them like Law of Life, Death, Growth, Decay; it even includes imaginary concepts like Law of Luck, Fortune, Fate; or some concepts related to feelings of living beings like Law of Love, Lust, Greed, Happiness; as well as daily-life concepts of beings like Laws of Dream, Literature, Sex, Fight, and even Sleeping.

Then comes the superiority of Laws, well, theoretically, except for the few special ones like Law of Time, Space, Dream, Fate, Life, Death, Creation, Destruction, and few similar Laws, most of the other Laws are considered at the same level.

Obviously, a similar level doesn't mean their availability to living beings are also the same; for example, Fire Law is one the most common law owned by the God tier beings, and Ice Law belongs to the average rarity while Lightning Law is one of rarest among common elements, as a matter of fact, Lightning is slightly rarer than even Light and Darkness.

____________

WORLD TIER (explanation)

The worlds in which living beings can access the laws of the world are referred to as higher tier worlds, and the higher and more laws can be accessed by more living beings, the higher is the tier of that world.

These means two things:

One, only a few beings accessing the higher laws won't increase the tier of the world. For example, in Arifureta, both Ehit and MC were able to access very laws of the world and even create a few very ridiculous ones but the number of such people is quite small to increase the net tier of the world.

Two, tier doesn't indicate the raw strength of the corresponding world. For example, many mecha related worlds have the capability to destroy planets, but that is just because of not more than a couple of special variety of cannons; however, in many cultivation worlds, the strongest of them is far from planet buster level but many of them can manipulate rules of the world or in other words, heavenly dao, martial dao, 'origin magic' and other similar names; therefore, due to great variety, number, and extent of laws used by living creatures in the cultivation world, in general cases, cultivation world has higher tier than mecha world.

__________

INDIVIDUALS' POWER LEVEL (explanation)

Each world out there in the multiverse is filled with different variety of living creatures and among them, some superior worlds contain the top category of these living beings, intelligent species, which in most cases rule their respective worlds.

But among these superior worlds, some extra special ones contain more than one intelligent species and the number of intelligent species inside a single world may vary from just a couple of them to hundreds and even thousands.

And with different species as well as different worlds comes different power systems, even to the extent that inside a single world multiple power systems can be found. For example, in some sword and magic there exist warrior, mage, and magical beast power system.

But for the higher beings, all these systems can be correlated with each other according to a broader power system followed by these beings, because this system divides people into categories which just can't be considered as one, and the power system is:

* TIER 0: First is the normal living creatures who can't directly manipulate any kind of energy or their body and soul can't bear the burden of energy manipulation, but it doesn't mean all of them are weak, after all, Tony Stark from MCU without his suite is also a Tier 0, also most of the newborn living beings are in this group and then they rise above it.

* MORTAL, TIER 1 - 4: Generally, according to the world that person belongs to it is referred to Mortal Cultivator, Mortal Mage, Mortal Warrior, or other similar names. This group contains living beings which are capable of manipulating energies, whether it is due to their own capabilities or some external artifacts. This is the realm or stage in which living creature improve their body and soul to make it capable of bearing the burden of Laws, which they will be contacting in their next stage.

* DEMI-GODS, TIER 5: For any being climbing the ladder of power, in most of the cases this realm is of the shortest duration as well as the most dangerous one with a very high mortality rate, so much so that some don't even dare to enter this stage.

And the reason for the high mortality rate? Because in this realm Mortals try to make a connection with a 'Law' or multiple 'Laws', but 'Laws', 'Rules', 'Dao of Power', 'Origin', or whatever one might call it should originally belong to the world and the act of stealing it wounds the world; although this wound is mostly recoverable, the world will obviously counterattack on the mortal trying to hurt it

And there is no way a Mortal can easily contend against a world, or rather, as a matter of fact, most of the mortals are just incapable of surviving a world's counterattack, and those selected few who survive this ordeal enter the next realm.

Also, in some worlds, the world's counterattack is referred to as heavenly tribulations.

Although not widely practiced, there is one safer way to cross this realm; the logic of this method is quite simple; the reason world counterattack is that it gets wounded when a mortal tries to steal or snatch the 'Laws' from it, then what if someone didn't snatch the laws from the world rather take it from someone who already owns Laws of the world, that is individuals at the higher realm, and even though this isn't completely safe, the danger drastically decreases.

But not many mortals have the luxury to use this method because the individual at higher realm delivering the 'Law' gets severely weakened and even wounded for quite some time, and no one is easily willing to face such consequences, sometimes not even for their own descendants.

* FALSE-GOD/PSEUDO-GOD, TIER 6 - 8: Once someone passes the 'trial' of the world and owns at least one Law, the world start viewing them as the part of itself; therefore the individuals in this realm can slowly learn and get new laws with relative ease and not getting retaliated by the world.

Also, entering this realm has the bonus effect of drastically increasing the lifespan, as for the actual figures of the extended lifespan depends on species, bloodline, and the Law owned by the individual, after all, an individual who owns the Law of life and death can obviously live longer than a similar individual owning the laws of fire or lightning.

Even though this realm gives a very very long lifespan to the people, of all those who enter this realm only a very very small fraction are able to enter into the next realm, so much so, that more than 99.99% of individuals in this realm die because of old age.

Why? Because even though creatures in this realm learn and get new laws from the world without facing any retaliation from it, they are two major restrictions in it.

First, to enter the next realm the beings in this realm must understand and own more 'Laws'; that means learning the very rules by which the world was created and it runs, so even it is just a part of the whole, it is just too vast to be understood in the relatively long lifespan of False-Gods.

Second, although Pseudo-Gods have permission for learning the laws from due to the world instinctually considering them as something related to itself, this permission is for a very small section of laws because upon getting impatient even Pseudo-Gods might harm the world and the world will obviously counterattack in such cases; after all, learning 'Laws' is a step by step process one can't skip it otherwise the world will treat it as an attempt to learn new laws; for a somewhat extreme example, what if a Pseudo-God of pure fire laws wants to get 'Laws of water', then obviously world consciousness will smack that Pseudo-God hard for doing insane experiments in its domain.

Now comes the question, if both Demi-Gods and Pseudo-Gods have access to the laws, from the point of view of their combat powers, is there a major difference between them? Yes, these two realms have one major difference, so much so that Demi-Gods just can't hope to defeat Pseudo-Gods, unless it is a well-planned sneak attack, and that too has a very low probability of succeeding.

Why? Because Pseudo-Gods have the privilege of accessing the 'Laws', which is given to them by the world itself.

But, how exactly does this privilege increase the strength of Pseudo-Gods to the extent of dispairing Demi-Gods? As explained previously coming in the direct contact of Laws might prove to be dangerous and has the chances of one losing its true self and then dying by getting assimilated in the world, due to this Pseudo-Gods have some limiters set in their body and soul which prevents something like this from happening.

But due to this privilege, each and every Pseudo-God can temporarily remove those limiters and get to use a special form for a short time; that is till their body and soul can bear the burden of limiters being removed.

In this special form, which is called as Ascension Form and sometimes God Mode, Pseudo-Gods make a direct connection with their Laws and although for a short period of time, this allows them to use the Laws with near perfection and not facing any backlash till this form is active; however, extended use of this form, beyond the bearing capacity of body and soul, assimilates the Pseudo-Gods into the world.

* TRUE-GODS, TIER 9 - ?? : Once a Pseudo-God understand or own enough Laws to not get assimilated into it, no matter how Laws are used, then it reaches the True-God realm. So, in simple words, a True-God is basically a Pseudo-God in eternal God Form.

Based on the nature of relationships with the world, the True-God realm is divided into two major types.

1.) Inner-Gods, Tier 9 - 10: In this division, True-Gods don't break the connection between the Laws owned by them and the world, therefore slowly they get authority of directly using Laws from the world without even owning it; in a way the literal Gods who can actually change the way the world operates, just because they wished for it.

2.) Outer-Gods, Tier 9, 10, and above: As the name suggests, True-Gods in this division break their connection with the World. Doing this has its own advantages and disadvantages; the biggest drawback is that after separating from the world increasing the Laws without a fixed big source is extremely difficult, and the biggest drawback is that unlike Inner-Gods, whose maximum realm are fixed at Tier 10, Outer-Gods don't have an actual upper limit of strength, as long as they are capable enough their strength will continue to increase.

______________

BLOODLINES

In the multiverse, a vast variety of species exist, so much so that even the ones with the same names but from the different world might look like a different species upon comparing with each other; like Humans from ATG have profound veins, Humans from Re: Zero have mana gates, Humans in Nasuverse have mana circuits, and there are many others similar cases.

Then comes an obvious question, are all bloodlines equal? As much as some might hate it, the best thing to be said is 'It Depends'.

What does it depend on? Actually many things, from what they are practicing to the environment they are living in.

For a simpler example, Descendants of Fire spirit would have excellent results in practicing Fire Laws but practicing Ice Laws would be something akin to suicide, no it isn't like they just can't have Ice Laws, rather it is extremely difficult with each step filled with risk of death; however, for a normal human without any significant affinity to any elements practicing Fire Laws would be difficult than for Fire spirit descendants but in similar conditions practicing Ice Laws will also give similar results, which is much easier than for Fire spirit descendants.

Now comes a question, why there are so many bloodlines? There are two main reasons behind it:

First, actually a quite obvious one, because the world and fate designed it to be like this.

Second, this one explains the creation or rather the alteration of the existing bloodlines, whenever any individual comes in contact with the Laws their soul and body both get affected by it, and the extent of the effect increases along the Laws owned by that individual, and this effect will obviously appear in its descendants, also, as a matter of fact, it isn't strange for a True God to have descendants who are in Demi-God realm by birth, with Laws owned by them similar to their parents.

In many worlds, certain species are inherently stronger than others because they had recent True-God realm ancestors, and obviously this bloodline will start getting weaker with further generations, due to which it isn't strange seeing species like this prohibiting their descents from mating with those outside their species.

_____________

At last, somebody asked me where Saitama from One Punch Man would be placed? Well, he is at least at the peak of the Pseudo-God realm because he doesn't have a single limiter in his body; as for his actual position, it will be found when he shows his full strength or MC visits that world.

Ophis and Great Red from DXDverse: True-God

Most of the Gods form Campione: Pseudo-God

Servants from Nasuverse: Most in the Mortal Realm and some in Demi-God Realm

I won't say that I am first to use this Power System, but after some thinking and research I think this can include all types of the world, from cultivation novels to systems to magic to even power of 'Oppai' owned by Issei of DXDverse.

I hope this didn't disappoint you.
