The randomness of god

"Well, hello?" Said a young man as he is sitting on top of well nothing, he is just sitting on the blackness of the void or an invisible surface in a cross-legged manner

"Hello there!" Across the young man is a much much older man, the man honestly doesn't look flattering

He has a wild-grown out beard full of stains and dirt, his clothes are nothing but rags with holes, tears, and smudges on them while he doesn't have any shoes to speak of

His skin looks dry and cracked, his eyes are bloodshot, his hair is wild, long and messy, like his beard, he has a few missing teeth while there are mud and dirt on the man's face, legs, and all other exposed skin

Unlike the young man, he is sitting on top of a cardboard rug, which is unsurprisingly also full of stains, overall the man looks like a middle-aged beggar who doesn't know of the concept of showers or just general hygiene

"It's nice to meet you?" Said the young unsurely, he doesn't know how or what to think about this situation

One one hand he is amazed by the space around him and he is pretty sure he died just a few moments ago so this is probably a reincarnation scenario he is experiencing right now like in the novels he read

However, on the other hand, he read that the entity that is supposed to reincarnate him is either an all-powerful being with an overwhelming presence, a beautiful and kind goddess among women or a kind old man and the person in front of him is neither of the aforementioned so he really doesn't know what to do

"Yes, indeed it is nice to meet you." Said the beggar, his voice is nasty like he has a smoking, alcohol and drug addiction at the same time, and some lung/throat-related disease are were added into the mix, truly nasty

"Excuse me if I'm being rude, but could you explain to me where I am, how I got here and who are you?" Said the young man with a respective voice, even thou the beggar doesn't look like a god if there is one thing he has learned from the novels he read it is that you should never underestimate someone, especially in this type of situations

"Well then, to first answer the question of who I am, well I am a god or more specifically I am Mariak the god of randomness. As for why you are here well for that I have to explain a little about how fate and gods work." When Mariak heard how the young man addressed him he faintly smiled before he opened his mouth to speak once again in his deeply disturbing voice

'I knew it.' Hearing what Mariak said the young man gave himself a pat on the back for his intelligence before he continued to listen on to Mariak

"We gods are night omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. However what we do lack is the knowledge regarding one matter, mainly fate. We can certainly predict fate, however, we can not influence it in any way, shape or form. Let's say my fate is to die in 3 months, I can do whatever I want in those 3 months but I will die, there is no escaping it. However, in rare cases, a being can defy their destined fate. It can be any being, a god, a human peasant, a king, a queen, a lizard, an ant, any being. We gods have predicted the fate of everything for the next millions of years and due to our nigh omnipotence, we know when something isn't going according to fate. So in order to gain control over fate when a being has defied their fate and has at some point reached their end, we take that being and reincarnate it to see if and how the being can defy fate." Mariak said with one breath if the concept of breathing is even present for gods, or are they, gods, it's said that a god has to be able to do anything in order to be a god so aee they gods

"So I guess I am one of those beings?" When the young man heard what Mariak said, he was confused by the sudden influx of information but he forced himself out of the confusion and focused on the important parts

"Correct. Since there are multiple gods out there we have decided that in order to not tear each other apart for such beings we shall equally divide them, with each god getting one until everyone got one, at that point the redistribution starts again. And you have been given to me." Said Mariak while keeping his smirk on his face before the young man started talking

"However there must be a benefit to us as well right?" From all the clues the young man has gathered there must be something he will get in return, for if he didn't the gods could reincarnate being such as himself without needing a confrontation like this

"Smart one, yes indeed because you see the moment you defied fate until the moment you are reincarnated your fate is unknown and undecided. So what could happen is when someone gets reincarnated he immediately dies or commits suicide and if that happened we would have to reincarnate that person again but we fear that if we reincarnated a person more than once it will bring no effect and they couldn't defy fate again. We do certainly know that if a being is reincarnated only once that it can defy fate. And one of you might commit suicide the moment you are reborn or something like that. So in return for being our Quinney pigs, we shall give you powers and reincarnate you into the world of your/our choosing and you have to live out your life in the world." Saying that Mariak strokes his beard in a senior like fashion however because of his dirty look and stained well everything it just looks gross, besides that what he said sorta does make sense

"You said a world of our/your choosing and certain powers, could you elaborate on that?" Processing all of the information the young man gets the gist of it however what confuses he is the god's last statement

"You see those are the benefits, you get inhuman powers and go to a world of yours choosing, however, that is not as easy as it may appear for us to do. Some powers we don't have the control over but they belong to other gods and the same goes for certain worlds. So if a being chooses 2 powers that are out of the god's control he will have to ask those other gods for favors which are already a lot to do for gods so they will reincarnate the person into one of their worlds. The same goes for the reverse scenario, however, you don't have that luxury." At the end Mariak had an evil smirk on his face as he explained the last of how to reincarnate

"Why is that?" However contrary to Mariak's expectation, the young man didn't get flustered nor did he raises his voice, he has already figured out that right now all that matters are the benefits and the costs

"Hmm, you are no fun. Anyways gods have an element of their power in their personality, so let's say the god of justice has a very just personality and everything he does has to do with justice, and all the powers he grants and worlds he has control over are based on justice. And as I said before I am the god of randomness, so when you reincarnate, no one not even I will know when, where and with which powers you will reincarnate. That is also why I'm appearing like this before you, I have just randomly been stuck inside this body." Pouting at the beginning which didn't look cute at all on a grown-ass man who looks like a dirty beggar Mariak continues with his explanation and the reason he has presented himself the way he did

"So what is the benefit I am getting?" Saying that the young soul recalculates his plan, he already knew what power he would pick but it seems as tho he can't do anything about that

"You will get 3 powers instead of the usual 2 or 1. You should not underestimate that 1 more power, because of the randomness that power can be anything including omnipotence so are you ready to move on to your new life?" Mariak said that while adopting a grim yet happy expression as if he is happy to see the young man go yet he is angry at the prospect of that one wish to be underestimated and the fact that his powers are underestimated

"Well, I am as ready as I will ever be, so let's get to it, shall we?" Sighting to himself the young soul prepared to live out a new life free from his old one, he really never expected something like this to happen but it did and now he has no choice but to go along with it

"Alright, then I wish you a happy new life, Adam." Seeing how the young man closed his eyes in preparation Mariak waved his hand and the young man, Adam was no more
