The Soul System in the Apocalypse

Henry was just a simple boy but life was never simple to him. During his early years, he had actually encountered the legendary human trafficking. He was taken to a black space where time was supposedly nonexistent. After wondering aimlessly for a long time in the darkness, something finally happened. A screen suddenly appeared in front of him. The screen had a title written on it in bloody red bold, 'THE SOUL SYSTEM'. Then, a bulky amount of information was poured into his mind at that moment. The planet that he was in was going to experience an apocalypse. Magic and other things that could only be seen in fantasy were going to appear. And during that time, it would be the period of the reign of the strongest. As someone who hadn't seen the world, how was he supposed to survive in such a world where not just strength, but even knowledge mattered? First System Ability (edited)

Henry and the other youths all looked around. Clearly, the others including Adam weren't sure about what was going on at the moment. From the anxious expressions that were on the faces of the security personnel, it was obvious that what was happening was definitely something that was considered dangerous.

The ones who had only come over recently were currently so frightened. This was the first time that they were encountering a situation where there was a fight that could take their lives at any moment.

Henry on the other hand was already expecting that something like this was going to happen. But all the same, he too was stunned by the amount of trouble that it had caused. The amount of bullets that were being shot at the entrance of the facility was nonstop, as if they were facing a crowd of enemies.

He looked at Adam that was next to him and spoke in a low voice, "Stay close to me at all times. Things might get nasty at any moment."

Adam was bulkier than Henry. But still, when it came to raw strength, Henry was stronger than him. That was the reason that Henry wanted Adam to be close to him. He knew that the fight would erupt at any moment and the youths that were here would be forced to fight for their own lives.

After a long period that the gunfire was ongoing, there was a sudden silence. There were no any other security personnel that were around the area where the youths had been gathered. This was abnormal as there was supposed to be someone that was supposed to be giving them instructions on what they were supposed to do.

Suddenly, they heard the sound of footsteps that were heading their way. It was clear that there was a large group that was heading their way, and, it wasn't at a low speed.

Henry felt that the rate at which his heart was beating began increasing. Just from the way that the footsteps were sounding, he immediately knew that the ones that were heading their way were definitely not humans.

And since there was such a large group that was heading their way and there were no more sounds of gunfire, he immediately knew that they would be at risk the moment that they continued staying here. So, he immediately looked at Adam and said, "Let's get going right now. We need to find a place that we can be secure at the moment."

Adam was stunned as he looked at Henry. He was wondering if there was anything wrong with Henry recently. He hurriedly pulled Henry's arm. "What is wrong with you recently? I can understand that your intuition worked this time. But then, what the f*ck is up with leaving this area? If you get out of here, the security is going to give you a thorough beating."

Adam tried speaking in a low voice so that nobody else would hear them.

Henry looked at him as if he was looking at a fool. Then, without saying another word, he immediately pulled Adam along with him. At the same time, he spoke. "You heard the sounds of gunshots. That is more intense than it ever was in the ten years that we have been here. Furthermore, there are no more gunshots, and there are footsteps heading our way, and they are not human."

At the moment, Henry was feeling irritated due to the fact that he had to do a lot of explaining. If this was any other person, he would have ignored him and headed on to do what he could have wanted.

Adam was stunned. But when he thought about the situation, he decided to go alongside Henry as he knew that, at most, he would just receive a beating. But if it was true about what henry had said, then he might as well die.

The other youths saw that Henry and Adam were leaving. They began having contemptuous expressions on their faces. They could immediately tell the fate that was awaiting the two of them when the security personnel came over.

They watched as the two of them disappeared into the shadows that were cast by the buildings. The two of them didn't head for the dormitory, but in another area.

Just as they were discussing about what the two of them were thinking and what they were going to face in the next few minutes, the sound of the approaching footsteps suddenly got closer.

All the youths turned their gazes as they looked towards the source of the sound. And in the next moment, they felt that the blood that was in their veins was suddenly frozen. For a moment, none of them reacted for a few seconds.

"Run!"

Nobody knew who shouted. But still, that was like a signal that had been given and they all rushed towards different directions. Due to the lack of order, some of the younger youths were knocked onto the ground and stomped on.

None of those that were running away cared about the ones that had fallen as each one of them only cared about their lives. As such, there were several youths that were stomped to death while others were injured. As for those that were injured, even though they were down, they still tried crawling to get away from the danger.

"HOOWL!"

The howling of a wolf echoed in the air as the over thirty wolves charged toward the youths. The moment that they caught up to any of them, they tore them up, eating their flesh. Blood and gore spilled on the ground as several miserable screams echoed.

No matter how hard the youths ran away, there were many of them that were caught and torn into pieces, losing their lives. There were a few that managed to escape with minor injuries but very few that got away with no injuries on them.

All those that had escaped immediately hid inside several rooms and locked themselves inside. None of them wanted to die at all. There were even incidences where others used their fellows as bait to delay the wolves that were charging at them.

Humans' true character was shown at that moment. At the moment of danger, it was everyone for himself.

...

After the two of them departed from the area where they were supposed to meet with the security personnel of the facility, Henry and Adam immediately got into a room.

At this moment, the facility was almost empty as there were no other people present in the rooms. It seemed that they had also headed towards the entrance of the facility during the time that there was gunfire.

But the end result of it all was definitely something that they will regret even in their afterlife.

When they got into the room, Henry and Adam looked around. This was a room that was fitted with a heavy metallic door.

Henry nodded to himself as this was just a good place for them to stay for the night, till dawn came in. From the information that he had gotten about the apocalypse, when there was darkness, that was the time when outside was the most dangerous.

Inside the room, there was a table that was surrounded by several chairs. On top of the table, there were several plates that still had delicacies on them. It was obvious that this room was used as a dining room.

"Tch! How good these people eat. Well, we struggle there with not only a single type of food, but also very little of it, while they on the other hand enjoy sumptuous meals." Adam clicked his tongue as he looked at the plates that were laid on the table.

Without saying anything else, he approached the plates and began eating the leftovers. Although they were being referred as leftovers, the food on the plates was almost full.

From this, Henry could immediately deduce that the alarm had gone off just as these people were beginning to eat. But still, it was good for them as they could finally eat something and regain their strength.

The two of them immediately sat around the table and began eating. They didn't care about what was happening outside at all. That was not to mention the fact that they really couldn't hear any noise coming from outside due to the soundproof walls of the room.

Still, Henry knew that at this moment, outside that particular door, there was definitely havoc. He was thankful that he had gotten a heads-up about what was going to come.

While they were eating, Henry suddenly saw something that made his heart skip a beat. At one of the shelves that was supposedly used to keep the items that were used by the security personnel when they were dining, he saw a pistol.

That was a gun! This was something that had never been left behind by the security personnel. It seemed that they were in a hurry to leave the room that not only had they left it open, but they had also forgotten a pistol here.

Since this was a handgun, it was mainly used as a secondary weapon. So, it wasn't strange that someone could forget it as long as they unequipped it.

He got to his feet and headed towards that shelf. Adam was surprised and looked at the direction that Henry was heading to. And just like Henry, he was surprised to see that there was actually a gun there.

Due to the tight schedule and discipline that the security personnel always maintained, there wasn't even a single time in the past decade that they had been here, where any of the youths picked up a gun.

But now, surprisingly, they had left it here. But thinking about it, it was also true that the youths were not allowed to enter a facility like the dining room that they were currently in. As such, even if a gun was left there, there was no way that the youths were going to get access to it.

The moment that Henry touched the gun, his mind went blank. And in the next moment, he appeared inside the familiar but unfamiliar dark space.

It was just that, this time, perhaps it could be referred to as a red space as the red light that was illuminating the place was still on.

Immediately after that, the sound of scratching of a glassy surface was heard again.

Just below the title of The Soul System, another line of words began appearing.
