Osberht was being held back by Grjötgard and unlike his previous battle, Osberht showed he was capable of taking the Viking's life.

This wasn't going to be an easy battle but Grjötgard was adapting gradually to his fighting style however there were moments where he thought that the enemy could fatally injure him but didn't.

Grjötgard didn't know if this was intentional but there was no killing intent coming from Osberht.

Grjötgard wanted to test this theory as Osberht thrust his sword forward; it was aimed at his chest.

If this blow landed, it would no doubt kill him but Grjötgard planned to avoid it at the last second should he carry on with the attack.

Grjötgard realized that the man had diverted it at the last second and used the blunt edge of the spear to crash into his chest but this knocked the wind out of him.
