Friends?

"Hey, guys!" the blue youth who had brought me here called out excitedly. "I found someone!"

At first, I couldn't see who he was addressing, but then he stopped in front of an alley, revealing a group of four glowing individuals huddled together.

"Thank goodness! I was starting to worry," a girl dressed like a ballerina, her glow emitting a blue hue, sighed with relief. "Yes, that's good. Anyway," another girl with large, round glasses and a purple glow interjected, "as I was saying, the glow is quite concerning. I can feel my magic slowly draining, and at the rate some of you are going, you probably have about a day before you're completely depleted." The rest of the group stared at her, bewildered. "What does that even mean?" a yellow-haired guy with slick hair asked.

The purple girl sighed once more. "From what I've observed, we're made entirely of pure magic. So if we run out, we die." She let the gravity of her words sink in. "How do you even know that?" the ballerina girl inquired softly. The purple girl gave her an irritated look before responding, "I graduated from Mary Academy with top marks," her voice gaining confidence as she spoke.

"Wow, isn't that the best magic school in the world?" the yellow-haired guy said with an unimpressed tone. "Yes, it is," the purple girl replied, a sense of pride surrounding her. "So how do we recharge?" the yellow-haired guy pressed again. "That's... what I've been trying to find out while you all were having your little chat," the purple girl replied, frustration evident in her tone.

"We were just introducing ourselves," the blue girl muttered.

"Well, find out faster!" the yellow-haired guy demanded, completely disregarding the ballerina girl. "I would if you guys could shut up for ten seconds!" the purple girl hissed in annoyance. "Guys, let's not fight," the light blue youth beside me intervened. "Instead, let's give the purple girl the time she needs." His words seemed to have the desired effect as the yellow-haired guy clicked his tongue and said, "Fine, I'll wait outside the alley," before leaving. However, on his way out, he bumped into me, and the purple girl, who had been watching him closely, locked eyes with me.

She gave me an uncomfortable stare before something seemed to click in her mind. "How long have you been here?" she asked. "Since yesterday," I answered nervously, avoiding eye contact by studying my feet. "And how large are your magic reserves?" she inquired once again. "Um, the doctor said they were average," I replied. The purple girl furrowed her brow and mumbled, "By 'average,' he probably meant average for a green soul type, which has the largest reserves. Hm..." She turned to face me once more and asked, "Are you feeling tired?" At this point, I was sweating bullets. "N-no," I stammered. She stepped closer, her face inches away from mine, and asked for the fourth time, "Are you 100% sure? I'm asking because you shouldn't have lasted this long based on my calculations." I took a step back, my nerves on edge. "Y-Yes, I'm sure."

"Did you feel tired yesterday?"

"Yes."

"And how did you overcome the tiredness?"

"I slept beside a child, and when I woke up, he was gone."

"I see. And where did this take place?"

"In an apartment a few blocks away."

"Then that's where we'll go for answers."

"Now?"

"Yes, now. You show us the way."
