Chapter 40: Been Ages Part 1

Carter walked up to the apartment building that Cruz lived in with a bag holding beer bottles under his arm. He hadn't seen him in so long and something about it made him nervous. He licked his lips and smiled at the doorman as they greeted him.

"Thank you." Carter nodded at the man and walked past him.

The lobby was grand and decorated in creams and golds. Velvet armchairs sat around white marble coffee tables with electric fire pits in the middle of them. They were encased in rectangular glass and the flames were blue, as they licked along gorgeous sea glass.

Carter was shocked by how amazing the place looked and he peered around for the elevator. He grabbed his phone from his back pocket and looked at the text to double check the floor. The double doors opened, and he stepped inside pressing the button for the floor right below the top one. He sighed and swallowed hard as the elevator moved.
