Chapter 5: Vanessa went Missing

The club room was filled with pop and jazz music and the majority of the people there were Polis high school students. It was Tary's birthday. She is John's girlfriend. She has invited every member of her class except those who ain't interested in celebrating the party with her. She invited lots of people. The room was a large one in that some were dancing while some were sitting, just feeling the vibes. It was Vanessa who brought the introverted Lyndia to the party.

Now it's time for Tary to cut her cake. The party was sponsored by her wealthy parents as they permitted her to do as she wished since it was her day. John was also called along with her to join her in cutting the cake after the pronunciation of her name and everybody cheered.

Collins and Max were not concentrating on the celebrant, but rather, on Vanessa.

"why are we even doing this", Max asked,

"vampires don't take anything, they take only things related to blood",

"Are you saying, she wouldn't eat any of those food and drinks on their table",

"let's watch", Collins replied,

"Vanessa, I think you have lots of admirers in this place", Lyndia said to her loudly because of the loud music.

"What did you mean?",

"I mean, Max and Collins have been staring at you all this while",

Vanessa turned in their direction and nearly met with their eyes if they hadn't looked away quickly, looking back at the celebrant. Vanessa smirked and stood up. She walked up to them smiling, she was damn beautiful. She wore a skimpy skirt and a singlet arm top. When Max noticed her coming in their direction, he began to sweat and have the sudden urge to pee. His papa began to slap each other. Collins nearly laughed when he noticed this,' like where the hell is his brave friend'. Every single guy that Vanessa passed through always turned back to have another look at her. She looks more beautiful than when in her school uniform. Lyndia giggled seeing the expressions.

She finally got to Collins's table and took her seat opposite them, smirking. Max tried not to take a peek at her but was impossible.

"you seem to be having a good time", Collins said as she sat down,

"Sure and you?",

"it's cool", he replied looking around,

"Why did you guys have your meat untouched?", she said cutting a small portion from it and extending it toward Max. Max was somewhat scared,' seriously, didn't she see Collins, do I look like someone who's in the mood to eat meat when am about to pee in my trouser', he yelled in his mind.

"c'mon", she urged him with her charming smile.

"what are you doing?",

"What?, can't I feed him?",

"you want to feed a guy?",

"What?, and so?, well then I'll eat it myself", she said and chopped it into her mouth, "wow! what an excellent taste",

Max and Collins looked at each other and heaved a sigh. Max was angry at himself for being scared for nothing. He banged the table at Vanessa who looked at him confusedly and also at Collins who had been holding in his laughter.

"why are you here?",

Vanessa dropped the fork," what?",

"am asking you why you are here?", Max asked again,

"I came here for you both to have a proper and good look since it will be easy for you to stare at me now",

"huh!?", Collins and Max exclaimed at once.

"Whooooooo.....", they heard the sound and turned to see what was going on. It was Tary and John, dancing beautifully to the music as everyone kept cheering. Vanessa giggled as everyone's attention was now on them. Not long, their friends stood up and joined in the dance. Lyndia squeezed herself through the crowd, trying to find her way to Vanessa. She just had a vision, a dangerous one of which Vanessa has to be aware.

"ah.....", Collins heard a distant scream. He looked around but it seemed like nothing was going on as everyone kept dancing. Even Vanessa didn't notice anything, including Max. Suddenly everyone seemed to have stopped dancing, rather screams were heard, but it was the loud music couldn't confirm anyone's curiosity. Vanessa was also confused, not until a lady fell. Vampires.

Everyone started running for their lives, the vampires were killing mercilessly as it was the first-night lord gave them the freedom of the first hunt. Max dragged Collins away even though he tried fighting but the vampire's number is not something he can overcome alone. After running to the corridor, Collins yanked his hand from Max.

"Why did you drag me away?", he yelled angrily,

"it's too dangerous back there, you can't let anyone know who you are, not yet",

"what are you telling me, my friends, our friends, they're all back there, is my identity that important to risk everyone's life",

"Collins, calm down, John is still there, same as Vanessa but..",

"nope, I can't let everyone die just because of my incapacity", he said and ran back even though Max tried stopping him.

Vanessa stood helplessly as she watched people getting murdered. Annoyance, hatred, and courage, all whelmed in her and her gaze fell on a big chicken's lap and a knife with a fork on the table. Just as a vampire wants to bite Veronica, Vanessa runs to her rescue. She pulled the vampire's hair, shoved the chicken lap into his mouth, and snatched the knife before he did anything. She stabbed the vampire dead.

"Vero!! Run!!", she shouted.

Vanessa's eyes met another vampire's, he looked very dangerous and angry, and without being told, she took to her heels. The vampire also went after her. Vanessa ran into the corridor which has two directions. When the vampire got to the restroom, he checked every toilet till he found the path to the corridor. Vanessa ran through the corridor panting and kept on looking back. She took the left side of the corridor. Someone suddenly pulled her to a side. She wanted to scream but her mouth was covered as the person pulled her closer into the alcove and hugged her tightly with one arm. The person hugged her so tight that the alcove would be able to hide them well but Vanessa was unable to breathe well. She Didn't Know who the person was but could sense he was trying to save her. The vampire got to the corridor, he looked at both sides but everywhere was quiet. He took the left side walking calmly thinking he would be able to hear any movement but none. He suddenly stopped and turned back. He went out of the corridor with the thought that she had escaped, because it was too quiet.

Collins peeped to see if the vampire was gone, it was then he let go of Vanessa. She looked at him slowly,

"Collins?",

"I saved you twice already, now you owe me". They stared at each other for a while till they heard some footsteps. "I hope am not your guardian angel", Collins said as he pulled her out of the alcove and saw Max. Max peeped through the place where they just came out from, "Don't tell me you two hide there?",

Collins turned to Vanessa and held her shoulder,

"I only want to ask you a question, why? you were bitten by two vampires, why are you not dead?",

"I don't know" " she replied, though has been expecting the question but not in the presence of anyone.

"Are you not one of the vampires, trying to ruin the party?",

"I am not",

"yes, you are",

Vanessa slapped him across the face. That was unexpected, Collins held his cheek with his head facing the other side.

"how dare you call me a vampire", she said and stormed away. Max sighed and shook his head,

"why did you do that, that was harsh",

"I know, I was expecting her to run as I questioned her, that will prove I caught her being a vampire",

"hoo, but she didn't. If she didn't die from a vampire's bite nor turned into one, then what's she?".

Seven people were the victims of vampires but the majority were injured. Some were glad that it was preferable as many people didn't die. The policemen were around now with the ambulance. The celebrant wept bitterly as she felt guilty at the same time. Everyone was a bit away from the clubhouse. Vanessa's friends stood together, one of Lissa's shoes was gone so she held the second one in her hand. Not long after, they sighted Collins, Max, and John together. They ran to them.

"Collins, have you seen Vanessa anywhere?", Lyndia asked nervously,

Collins and Max looked at each other,

"you two should say something", Vero said getting impatient,

"she left before us, we had no idea", Collins replied.

Without waiting, Lyndia ran to one of the police.

"excuse me, excuse me, sir, someone is missing",

"Who?",

"Vanessa, Vanessa Carson".
