Chapter 4: A night of horror

Everyone sat down in the hall. Mr. Andrew, the upper-class English teacher who is a very strict man loves giving moral talks during gatherings and also addresses the issue of security consciousness. Everyone has to pay attention knowing how strict he is when giving his speech. Not long, there was a commotion and the teachers had to excuse their selves while some stayed behind with the students.

"Vanessa is not here", Max said after observing around. Collins also checked and found out it was true. Vanessa is absent. Just then Mr. Andrew came back and picked up the microphone.

"Sorry for the interruption, a very serious issue just came up, please let's be very careful and be security conscious, in no circumstances should you walk alone, especially at night. Like I said earlier, a serious issue just arose, the school gardener was murdered by a vampire",

The students began to panic, they all started murmuring as they became scared. They were now lots of noise and the teachers found it hard to keep them calm.

"We all know this is the first time a vampire would break into our school, but we assure you of safety, for now, everyone would have to go back home till there be enough security to protect us....",

The students did not allow him to finish his statements before they all stood up immediately, especially the girls, and began to run out. Some that still have their bags in the class didn't bother going back for them. Max and Collins looked at each other,

"could she be the one?", Collins asked trying hard not to believe,

"We need to stop her now",

Collins and Max quickly find their way back to the class area. They went to class B first of all but no one was there except for the blood stain on the floor. They became alert and dashed out of the class, searching for other classes. Just as they turned from the next class, they saw someone shadow running through the corridor and into the science lab. They ran in that direction but before they got there, they heard a glass falling and a broken sound. They rushed into the big science lab, but it was unusually quiet. Max sighed at the broken glass with a brown liquid substance. Max draws Collins's attention to it. Collins squats to have a proper look." isn't that the chemical that Mr. Alex never allows anyone to get to. He always gets worked up anytime it comes to this chemical. He teaches about other chemicals except this", Max said and squats beside him.

Collins studies for a few seconds,

"isn't a green substance that used to be here? it's now brown?", he noticed and his eyes changed to good for a minute before changing back to normal.

"It's not chemical", he informed, shocked at his findings,

"What did you mean?",

"It's a drug, Max",

"a drug?", Max was also surprised. Just then, Mr. Alex walked in on them. "what are you two doing here?", he fumed seeing the broken glass. They stood up immediately.

"We forgot our textbook yesterday so we came back for it", Collins lied,

"Were you not told to go home? you came here instead and broke the chemical? you know what? just get out", he yelled. Collins and Max ran out immediately.

"shit!", he bought out his phone and dial a number,

"what's wrong?",

"am sorry, the substance got broken",

"how?",

"I think some students mistakenly broke it",

"and did you know the consequence?",

"I am very sorry, please forgive me, my Lord, I promise to...",

"Is he aware?",

"no I haven't informed him yet, I will make sure to do that",

"I'll give you another chance",

"thank you, my lord, thank you..",

The line gets cut. Alex gladly walked out of the lab. The lab got quiet again, then Vanessa and Lyndia came out of their hiding.

"your vision is right", Vanessa said. Lyndia had a vision of a vampire killing a gardener and Collins in the lab with Max.

"but am confused", Vanessa said,

"About what?",

"about everything?",

"I understand but are you alright?",

"yes", Vanessa replied as she cleaned the blood in her mouth.

"I can't see anything about you when I held your hand, I could only feel it",

"I don't get you",

"that time, in the class, I suppose to see a vision because any time I come in contact with anyone, I do see a quick vision about them but surprisingly that wasn't the case when I held your hand",

"but why?",

Lyndia adjusted her eyeglasses, "I didn't see anything when I held your hand, it was blank instead, I only felt your power",

"power?", Vanessa was surprised, "that's ridiculous cause I don't have any power",

"you do, a very strong and mighty one, it's so strong that it blocked my vision, I tried to find out who you are by force, but it was still 96% negative and the force was the reason why you split out blood",

Vanessa was speechless," and you find out?",

"no, I didn't but I felt every inch of it, enough to save someone's life",

"no, no, no, you are wrong, you are wrong Lyndia, I don't have any power, though I believe you see visions because I truly spit that blood, you told me about a vampire running through classes which is why we ran but I don't have any power. If I have any power then where are they? you said it could save a life but I wasn't able to save mine when a vampire bit me yesterday not to talk of saving my mother who has been lying in the hospital bed for years", she said as tears streamed down her cheek, "I wasn't able to stop the pains that went through my veins when the vampires fed on me, nor stopped my dad a long time ago from injecting me.

"then did you know why you ain't dead yet? though am not surprised cause it's hidden. It seems to be blocked but without it, you would have been dead or have become a vampire don't you think?",

Vanessa was quiet, not wanting to believe she had power.?..

"Without your power, how about we work together so that no vampires would ever think of daring us",

"Why are you so determined to help me, or kill vampires? For many years now, they've been in existence and no one could do anything, did you think we can?",

"I believe in you, I know what I feel, your power is so strong, the presence is so strong and I want to help so we can change the world, the government's greed can't make them fight the vampires but we can. We can save the world... and my father", Lyndia said. They looked at each other for a while before Vanessa accepted and they shook hands.
