The Day Before

A day before the arrival of Benard to Bawsi, the training in the camp was more intense and tough. They performed many exercises and physical activities. James was so tired and went to drink water during the break. As he was taking water, Cletus went to meet him and they started discussing.

"James you know that the big day is tommorow and I hope that we come out victorious and we win this."

"I hope so too brother." James said as he took another cup of water.

"You seem very tired. You need to rest or you will break down before the war even starts."

"Maybe I need some rest. I have been overworking." He said as they heard Esiarp

calling for a general meeting and as soon as they got there, they saw Kinla standing on a podium and Esiarp standing beside him and they joined the line. Esiarp then announced that the village head had something to say to them.

"My gallant soldiers, tommorow is a big day and our first battle in about 40 years and I want you to know that I am with you and the gods are with you too. We must fight for our land and with my master plan, we stand a chance against them. We must fight to the end. I want you all to hide in all corners of the palace and the streets while my escorts will bring Benard to the palace and when I bow to him, you attack him because if he goes down, the army goes down. Are we clear?"

"Yes sir!" They all chorused.

"Good. Now let's fight for our land!" Kinla said at the top of his voice and everyone shouted in unison.

By evening, James, Cletus and Varlom started discussing about the war the next day.

"Do you think that the plan will work." Varlom said with a worried voice.

"We hope so and besides Benard might underestimate us because we are small." Cletus said with optimism.

"Probably." James said.

"I am a bit scared and excited." Varlom said as he picked up his sword.

"Don't worry. I will protect you in anyway I can." He said as he held Varlom by the hand and then they went into their tents to sleep.
