Human Mental Illness Test

"Does the fourth young master want to save it? Should I put it in the fridge? Mrs Hui sometimes likes to redo the leftovers. She may make a new sandwich so the bread isn't soggy when you eat dinner. She left cookies for the seventh young master when he wanted to keep his dinosaur nuggets last time. It wasn't your favorite snickerdoodle, it was chocolate chip cookies. The seventh young master showed off to me when I went to pick up your meal.

He was so happy. Of course, the nanny scolded-"

Bai Gujing heard he'd still get to eat it, so he let go. He even moved the sandwich over to one side of the plate. He realized something sweet after a meal sounded really good. That was exactly what he wanted. He wondered what kind of cookie he would get. Bai Gujing watched the old man take the food and hand it off to a servant along with some instructions. He was still blabbering to the servant when the psychologist tried to talk to him.

"Mr Bai, would you like to try the picture test?" He slid a notebook and pencil forward and held up the big deck of cards. There was a black blob on the white card. "Just write down what you see."

Bai Gujing looked at it. It was a black blob. Was it magic so everyone saw something different? He sent a little creature to test the cards for anything mana or energy related. He didn't sense anything. The little creature returned to his core again.

The first card was put at the back and revealed a new card. It looked the same as the first. Bai Gujing snuck a glance at the doctor. Doctors were supposed to be professionals of human health, right? Maybe he needed to be checked by a doctor?

Bai Gujing looked at the frog picture laying on the table. The poison dart frog was colorful and looked very nice to touch. It was sitting on a leaf with large dew drops scattered around. This was what a picture should look like. Bai Gujing wondered if humans could no longer tell what was beautiful and what wasn't because they saw pictures a lot. Or maybe he was the unrefined one? He wondered why none of this was part of his teachings. He thought he knew a lot about humans. Maybe Xiao Bai had dumbed him down.

The doctor must have given up with his fake pictures when Bai Gujing didn't show interest. Or maybe more time had passed then Bai Gujing knew and the cards were over. Whatever the case, the doctor had set down a paper and a pen in front of Bai Gujing.

There were questions with choices varying from strongly disagree to strongly agree. The first question asked if he knew polite distancing rules with people. Bai Gujing was startled. What was this test? To test if he is a crosser? If he answered wrongly, would they know he's a crosser? Or because he's part human, his answers would be mixed and they would mistake him for a spy? Bai Gujing did not want to take this test. It seems going to school isn't worth it.

He hesitantly looked at the second question.

The next question was whether he preferred to do things alone. Should he answer strongly agree or strongly disagree? He wanted to be with people, but he only wanted to be with people and not others. He'd rather not be with the cub and young man from earlier, but if he could find Cleo he wouldn't mind not leaving his side for the rest of their lives. Which one should he refer to?

The next question was whether he got so focused on things he loses sight of what's going on around him. He hesitated for a moment before pointing to strongly agree.

"You have an answer? Would you like to try filling in the bubble for it?" He pushed the pencil towards his finger.

Bai Gujing took the pencil and filled the circle in the line of the question he wanted to answer. Then he began looking at other questions. He filled in some of the ones he felt were harmless or obvious. For example, if it was easy to make friends or if he liked numbers. Whether Bai Gujing could make friends or not should be obvious. He can barely look people in the eye, so he felt like he didn't have to force that answer. On the other hand, liking or disliking numbers sounded like a random question thrown in to drop their guard, so he filled in his bubble. He thought humans' math were quite interesting.

When he was done he put down the pencil and grabbed his knees. He wondered if they would be suspicious because he didn't fill so many in. maybe he should have left it all blank instead? Even Du Dong complimenting him the whole time didn't make him feel any better. The doctor stayed for a while longer before leaving. The old man followed a while later. Bai Gujing didn't pay attention to any of it.

Once he was alone again, he finally relaxed. He would face their reactions later, and the system would record their conversations. He'd already removed the piece that let him hear them, but the creatures listening in didn't dissipate. The system would still make notes of what it heard.

Bai Gujing felt tired after such an exciting day. He'd rather fight monsters in a dungeon rather than worry about human things like today. He wanted to quickly remove the suspicions of him being a spy so he could live without worrying about every little action.

He trudged over to the bed and laid down. For the first time in years his body and mind were finally able to get a good rest.

When Bai Gujing woke up it was nearly noon the next day. He'd slept for 14 hours. The old man was reading a newspaper on the couch. Bai Gujing was careful not to let him know he'd woken. He closed his eyes again and carefully didn't move.
