"Do you think he's going to change to be like you wanted?"
Dorothy wouldn't bet her good carriage that Jack would return a changed man. She was yet to fully believe that he no longer cared for Scarlet or he would stop searching for Beth. "I don't trust him yet. I have to give him time to see if he means it. At least he will be out of town."
Gwen didn't trust Jack to go away to be by himself. "Why now does he want to leave Lockwood when Scarlet is out with her family? I don't trust him but since you are giving him a second chance, I will have faith in him. I don't want to see him ruined. What now? What will I tell my son?"
"Someone still needs to do the work while Jack is away. Tell him to be patient as his time might come again if Jack is not serious. I will still find a good place for him if Jack does well. I need all the help I can get these days. I must let her go," Dorothy decided, thinking of Beth.
