[Sup fam. I rewatched a bunch of Inuyasha episodes and I think I came up with a great plan for this volume. I'm already story boarding this and I'm thinking I'll try to publish a chapter 3 times a week until the volume ends. Then I'll take a short break for the next one. If you like the story, then leave a review. By the way, I'll add a picture I found on google that perfectly suits the MC. But picture him with a little bit longer hair.]

Ch.5
Kaede had been guarding the shrine and the surrounding areas for 50 years, since her sister Kikyo had perished because of that half demon, Inuyasha, that had betrayed her.
She always got a certain feeling when someone is powerful thanks to growing up with Kikyo as her sister. And was well acquainted with Inuyasha.
But the young man in front of her, who's barely even a man yet, gave her a feeling of oppression she had only felt from her sister.
She was doing her monthly rounds in Inuyasha forest with a few villagers to aid her, when she checked Inuyasha's resting place and found him.
A young man with spiky black hair and emerald eyes. Built like a warrior and wearing a yellow training gi and was barefoot although he didnt seem bothered by it. It was an odd outfit but reminded Kaede of the monks she once saw passing through her village during a pilgrimage.
But what really struck Kaede was the casual speed he displayed when deflecting the villager's arrows.
'So fast his hands blurred, but how powerful do ye have to be to do that..?'
"That wasn't nice." Jei said flatly. "What's the big idea? You want me to kick your asses?!" He flared some of his aura out to intimidate them.
Kaede felt it, and quickly decided she needed to end this peacefully. She cared not for her old bones, but didn't want the knucklehead villagers to get hurt.
"Young man. I apologize deeply for their actions. With the many wars lately they have become stupid even though I told them this little village has no place in wars." Kaede bowed slightly to show sincerity.
The villagers erupted in confusion.
"Lady Kaede! Why..?"
"Lady Kaede! Please don't bow for our sakes."
"I don't know why Lady Kaede is bowing to this stranger but there must be a reason."
"Yes we must bow our heads in apology."
"*whistper* Is he a noble?!"
Jei was flabbergasted with how quickly these peasants changed their tune. They actually thought they might have offended a noble. Jei suddenly couldn't help holding his stomach in tension before laughing out loud.
"Pft... he.. heha..HAHAHAHAHAHA!
"There's no need to bow your heads! I ain't some noble. But if you try to attack me again I'll definitely knock you out. Hahaha... Oh damn, what back country place did I end up in...!?"
Jei wasn't even mad at them. He isn't gonna go around killing people for offending him. But he also wasn't the type to be pushed around.
Even though he was proud to be the grandson of the greatest spirit detective in history, he never let it go to his head. No matter how strong he got, the thought of using his strength to hurt others never crossed his mind.
He wanted to be like his grandfather and use his powers to protect the ones he loves. Even though his grandpa is a tough bastard, he has a heart of gold, and always showed how much he loved his family.
Jei never met his parents so he looked up to Yusuke and emulated him. Of course Jei also got a bit of Keiko's compassion. Although Keiko hated the fact Jei inherited Yusuke's vocabulary...
"Old Lady, don't worry I don't have Ill intentions towards you all. I was just curious about this dog boy." Jei toned down his attitude since it was clear they wouldn't try any more shit.
Kaede sighed in relief. But she still didn't want anyone near Inuyasha even though she doesn't believe anyone can break her sister's seal, she obviously doesn't want people to try.
"That is the half-demon Inuyasha. He be the one that my sister sealed to the sacred tree, 50 years ago..."
After a long story about ill fated lovers, torn apart by greed, Jei got the gist of it, even though he zoned out a few times.
It wasn't that the story was boring... but it made him realize he was not in kansas anymore... ahem! I mean he realized he was still in japan... just in the the feudal times. As if everyone wearing kimonos and top knots wasn't a dead giveaway.
After promising Kaede he wouldn't touch the dog boy's seal, he went back with them to the village and this really hammered it home for him about the fact he was somehow in the past.
They basically lived in huts, and smelled like they hadn't bathed in days. It was getting late and Kaede let him stay in her shed for the night.
He was grateful to have a roof over his head, but he just couldn't sleep. He ended up laying on top of the shed's roof and gazed at the stars.
"What do you think, Snek? This is crazy right? Did that tunnel thing send us back in time?"
Snek appeared to be pondering before turning to Jei.
Shha sha (It is possible, but my gut says this is different.)
Jei looked at him inquisitively, "You don't think it's just time travel?"
The snake shook its head.
Shaa shhaa, Shha (It's feels different here. Similar, but I don't feel the spirit world's connection here.)
Jei turned his gaze back to the stars. He was deep in thought.
'If Snek can't feel a connection to spirit world, that means we are somewhere completely different. No matter where one is in the universe, spirit world could always be felt. At least, for a spirit beast...'
The gears turned in his head. Connections formed one by one until he finally reached the answer. Yes he is a little slower than others.
"...another universe. Just like the mangas?"
A childish excitement bubbled within Jei and Snek could feel it. While the spirit beast was happy his master was feeling joy, he felt he needed to keep him grounded a bit.
Shaa sha. (Don't forget about Yuma, and going home.)
This washed away Jei's enthusiasm like being dunked in ice water.
"...I didn't forget. But we don't know if Yuma ended up here or not. We will need to at least look around while we look for a way back. Any ideas?"
Sha shha (We could try checking that well.)
Jei face-palmed. Of course, investigating the well should have been obvious.
'I'll get this whole spirit detective thing down someday. Luckily for now, I have Snek with me to give me the answers.' Jei chuckled internally.
*yawn!*
"Ok, buddy. Let's check the well in the morning. Good night."
Jei drifted to sleep while still laying on the roof of Kaede's shed, with a sleep bubble coming out of his nose. Little did the carefree boy know, but a surprise awaited him the next day.
"Why the hell is that girl tied up?!" He shouted after waking up to a commotion in the village.
A young girl around his age in a sailor uniform was tied up in the village center. And Kaede was throwing salts in her face as if she were an evil spirit.
Jei wanted to laugh, but a tied up young girl in the middle of a feudal village was no laughing matter.
Pfft!
