As a punishment for his theft, he is cast into an otherworldly realm alongside other Bearers, where he faces off against monstrous beasts and powerful enemies. Yet, in his determination to return to the Continent and save his dying mother, Spheris is hell-bent on surviving the abyssal world. Even if it means giving his body to the Dark God whose powers he had stolen... even if it means losing all of his humanity.

• Dread The Dreadwingers

Fists glowed and brimmed with fire, Umbrage, water, ice and crimson. The team all braced themselves as the horde of Dreadwingers closed in.

Their grotesque skeletal forms skittered towards them speedily as their large claws crawled through the dry terrains. Their empty dark eyes seemed to fix on them with a deranged malevolent intent.

"Those things are bloody hideous," Nero mumbled under his breath.

"They're not very strong," Cerene said. "Just fast. If you want to kill them, target the cartilage around their necks."

Spheris glanced at her and then looked down at the tendrils of water wrapped around her hands, a frown on his face. He had been unable to get her to change her mind about joining the fight.

Spheris didn't expect any less, she was Cerene Mauldyrie. She refused to stay behind with Linne, and would rather join in on the action. It was her duty. Such a vexingly cliché girl.

"Why can't I just blow them up!?" Nero asked.
