Thorns withered, collapsing into brittle dust beneath her touch, clearly this was how they had gone through the maze of thorns. Spheris observed her power with silent admiration and carefulness.

Carefulness because; of the three Beastslayers, it was clear to him that Calla possessed the most formidable abilities. Her control over decay could extend to more than just plants. He imagined what it would be like in battle: a deadly advantage over beasts, and possibly even humans or fellow Bearers.
