THIRTY FOUR: CONCLUSION

Lia's P.O.V

It was Jay's turn to speak," Um, Stepping Stones actually has no idea that I ever came back. I assume your letter that you sent them, the form, will reach them in about a couple days. When I went there I just told them I was Jay's brother and they believed me. It's so disorganized there that they didn't pull up his files, didn't check to see if he was even still at the school, they just gave me the keys."

My mom looked horrified at this, but she struggled not to comment as Jay continued," That's why when Lia came they just gave her another set too, because they are just so disorganized that they don't even care. They actually have records of students who have graduated years and years ago still stuffed on that broken down computer. The amount of security and classification makes it really very dangerous for the students."

My mom had to speak up at this," Okay well, I got your stories, and reluctantly agree to believe them. However, Mr. Oakley, I think you will agree and accept the fact that I do not approve of the relationship you an my daughter have. I don't believe I need to explain why, unless you really are that ignorant."

Jay's jaw clenched very slightly," No ma'am, I understand."

My mother nodded almost happily," Excellent. Well then I have created a plan with the information I have gathered," She paused, re-reading her notes," Mr. Oakley- I take it you do not enjoy going to Stepping Stones?"

Jay shook his head sharply," No ma'am, not at all."

"Lia- you want Mr. Oakley to remain at school with you?"

I barely smiled," Yeah, I want that very much."

my mom gave a cold smile," Then here's my plan. Mr. Oakley, I believe the situation for you today is quite grim. And, to be frank, it is not so well for you either Lia."

A cold feeling crept up as she continued," I refuse to let you two date. It is a complete 'over my dead body' sort of situation. However- you cannot do anything about it unless you want to be pushed even further away."

I felt like I was about to cry," What do you mean?'

"I have information that could lead to Mr. Oakley expulsion if he doesn't obey my rules. My school. My rules. Now, a simple thing like whose dating whom I, regrettably, have no power over. But, there is a catch. I tell Mr. Oakley to," She paused and leaned over her desk to look Jay in the eyes," Stay away from my daughter, and I will agree to pretend I have never seen this."

She now reached around her desk to the large TV monitoring the school's hallways, classrooms, and outdoor areas, pressed a few buttons so the TV switched on the was playing a scene where it was very mucky and dark out. I made out many boys standing around, and then they started fighting. The fight went on without seeing any of their faces until...my mom quickly pressed the pause button, to show a clear glimpse of Jay's face on screen. I remembered Jay telling me about the fight between Jay and the other boys with horror. My mother then turned around triumphantly to stare at Jay, who looked rather sick. "Fighting in such a manner could lead to expulsion. And maybe, Mr. Oakley, your parents won't be so keen on sending you to another expensive school if you are kicked out of another one. And there goes your education," She leaned forward again, froth flecks coming out of her mouth with relish," And there goes your job. And their goes your future, Mr. Oakley."

She gave a high pitched laugh, holding no humor or warmth, "It's all right here at the simple press of a button! Now do you understand how important it is for you to obey, and keep away from my daughter? Very. Quite frankly, your whole life is in jeopardy. Now you are dismissed."

Out in the hallway was when I finally let my tears fall. And you know why I love Jay so much? Because beside the fact that his life had just been threatened by being near me... he wraps him arms around me and gave me a hug.
