“The kids are asleep and Lucia’s knee-deep in studying. Let’s go test something else.”

“As in… the bed?”

“Smart man. I knew you’d understand.”

We went through the next ten days in a state of anticipation. When we inquired at the end of the following week, Father reported that Angelina’s adoptive parents had taken her in when they were already in middle age, and were as stubborn as they were elderly. In the end, however, they’d somewhat reluctantly agreed to the opening of the crypt, and bone and hair samples from four sets of remains were on their way to Dani’s lab.

“Did the team follow my instructions?” Dani said.

“Yes, they did,” Father said. “They photographed, measured, and sketched before they disturbed anything. As it happens, one of the team members is an amateur archaeologist and knew precisely what to do.”

“Good.”

“I do have one other bit of news,” Father said.

“What?” I said.

“Angelina has had four sessions with the hypnotist.”
