The road we were passing was wide and as it usually happened we were surrounded by a large forest I did not give it much importance everything was too quiet for anything to happen, or so I thought when an arrow bounced off my armor.
"EMBOSSED!" I shouted instinctively, but it was too late some had already been hit by the arrow or had just died my body froze, I had never seen a dead body before.
{O god} I shook my head in denial now I had no time to be distracted I looked around some of the guards were running away so I opened my mouth to shout again.
"DON'T RUN COWARDS!" It seemed to have an effect on some, but a few others ignored me it didn't matter "Those with shields take cover and those without get behind the squire or me" We made a defensive formation few died several were wounded, but they could keep fighting.
"Resist, at some point you will run out of arrows!" I spoke loudly to moralize these soldiers had an effect and the minutes passed the arrows stopped coming, but casualties were inevitable 5 had died, 10 were wounded but still able to fight 3 who were barely alive and 10 tired but not wounded.
This was not going well, we must retreat, "Retreat in an orderly manner!" I ordered, "But sir, and the slaves?" One of the guards said to me.
{Eva} Damn it, Jax had Eva, "JAX! Get out of that damn caravan and go with Eva, I'll find you!" I saw Jax go down with Eva in his hands, but he was shaking.
{She was shaking?} that didn't matter now I stared at Jax and watched as he took off on a horse after making sure he was gone I sighed and focused on getting these guys out alive.
But something was wrong, it had been several minutes, and they weren't attacking us again, and we didn't see them either, but we were still retreating, all the seriously wounded had retreated along with the lesser wounded.
{Oh no} I saw many men approaching and seeing the cavalry approaching made us retreat faster, although I knew it was useless, my men were tired they were far more than we were.
I saw the eyes of several soldiers some were about to cry others were trembling with fear and some wanted to surrender I was trembling too, but my armor covered that view of me, so I left the formation and went alone I would hold back as much as possible so that at least they would not have so much numerical superiority.
I watched as several soldiers came out of the woods with short swords or throwing axes, wounding my men in the process or killing them.
{Why?}
