Chapter 59

"Can I know the reason behind the new proposal?" Alex directed the question to the man sitting in front of him.

Alex had approached Mr. Malcom because he had gotten word that the old man wanted to sell his business, and after learning one or two things about Mr. Malcom, he found out that he had no children and wanted to sell his company so that he could retire.

Originally, Alex wanted to set up a business in that country from scratch; it could have been an extension of the Ford group, but buying a business that was already established would save him from unnecessary headaches. He could also gain loyalties that came with the business.

Now that the old man was changing his mind, something might have happened, so he was wondering what it was.

"I just happened to change my mind" Malcolm answered. He could feel Alex's aura, but he had to give him an answer.

He knew that his reply couldn't keep Alex off his tail, but he wasn't good at cooking up stories. He just needed to do this so that he could do well by his daughter.

"If you say so," Alex said as he looked through that new document that Mr. Malcom had brought. He placed it aside and looked at the old man as if to read through him.

Malcolm was guilty and the wolf before him could smell the mixed emotions surrounding him. For whatever reason, Mr. Malcom just needed to close this deal and he would be a happy man after so many years.

"How long are you here for?" Alex suddenly asked

The question made the older man raise his head and look at Alex questioningly. He was wondering why Alex could suddenly ask him that. Had he caught on or?

Alex saw the wheels turning in Mr. Malcom's head through the look in his eyes. "Don't get me wrong, I am asking because I can't sign this right away"

"What do you mean by you can't sign it right away?" Malcolm asked

Alex had taken the initial changes subtly but Mr. Malcom's impatience was giving a weird inkling and his intuition as an Alph had never done him injustice.

"I will need the company's lawyer to look through it, anything wrong with that?" Alex responded as he looked the man straight in the eye.

Mr. Malcom gave a nervous laugh "of course not, I understand. I am here till the weekend because I still need to look around"

"I will get back to you on Thursday" Alex answered resolutely. He then made a call and asked Arnold to come to his office.

He then sat and looked at the old man who did everything possible to avoid eye contact. "Knock"

When Alex gave permission at the door, Arnold walked in "You called, Sir?"

"Yes, escort Mr. Malcolm out and also contact the lawyer for me" He then stood up, walked to the other side of his table, and shook Mr. Malcom's hand. The gesture made the old man happy.

Malcolm left Alex's office with a good impression of him. He had heard quite a lot of things about Alex and how ruthless he was, but he was surprised at how he was respectful towards him. He became a little guilty, but his heart and mind were in sync with his plans. H was just like an everyday businessman. Every deal made and signed should benefit and produce profits.

Arnold led Mr. Malcolm to the entrance of the building where his car was waiting for him and bowed in respect.

Malcolm gave Arnold a little smile as he got in his car and then asked the driver to drive off. He then made a call and relayed the outcome of the meeting.

He was polite and warm toward the person he was speaking to. His tone was calm like that of a father speaking to his child, but once in a while, pain could be seen on his face

"I didn't show any signs of being suspicious. If he did, then I didn't catch on"

...............................

"Of course, of course. I will be signing the documents on Thursday"

He then removed the phone from his ear and looked at it with longing. At the age of sixty, Mr. Malcom was lonely and longed for a family too.

He could finally die a happy man, and not lonely as everyone had predicted and little guild won't stop him from enjoying his last days.

Back at the Ford group, Alex had another impromptu meeting with the lawyer, and much to his surprise, there was no hidden clause or any suspiciousness thing about the document. Whatever the old man was hiding got him intrigued.

He asked Arnold to run a thorough background check on Mr. Malcom. He asked him to go under and above and wrack his life without leaving anything out. Alex learned from the previous incident never to underestimate anyone.

A lot of things were happening closely and he had to be meticulous if he wanted to clear any doubts, after all, he is planning to build a family. He needed his business and financial standing to be as strong as he can be.

Alex along with all the wolves under his protection had only one enemy who stood out for so many years and those were the hunters, but as things stood at the moment, there was a dark figure lurking in the dark.

He was not a superstitious person and believed that there was someone instigating everything that was happening.

As he was being driven home, Alex thought long and deep and decided that it would be risky to expose his beautiful mate and his twins to possible danger. He had wanted to take Malia to a fancy restaurant, but as far as things were looking, exposing her to the eager eyes would not be a good decision.

Currently, everyone knew that he had no partner aside from those closest to him, and he was done trusting the wolves too. As previously seen, some didn't think twice before crossing over to the enemy's camp.

With all the resolutions in his mind, he checked the time, and they had two hours before dinner time. He made a phone call to make another dinner arrangement with further instructions.
