CHAPTER 31

The closing bell rang and Yoo Na hurriedly left the class since she had a schedule search the lake where the anonymous gift killer dumped the body of his unlucky victims to see if she could get even the tiniest clue in the area that would help her catch the killer.

She was already running towards the gate when she heard her name being called. She turned around to meet the bright eyes of Jisoo.

"Let's go home together." Jisoo chirped happily and she wondered why the fragile girl would be so happy when she obviously had a shitty life.

"No, I have somewhere to be." Yoo Na replied coldly, she wasn't going to get attached to anyone and she couldn't, even if she wanted to because her heart was covered with so much hate and darkness she wasn't sure she could see the light anymore, especially the one coming from the fragile girl.

"Then let's take the bus then." Jisoo said with a cheery voice but Yoo Na's gaze were hard on her.

"No." She said shortly and turned to leave while Jisoo stood there as she watched her disappear from her sight.

"Yoo Na!" She heard the familiar voice call her a and she turned to meet the handsome face of Cha Eun. "I'll drop you home." He said.

"No, I'm taking a detour." She said as she turned to leave but she halted when he continued speaking.

"I really I'm curious on what's going on in that mind of yours." Cha Eun said with a curious look on his face as he stared at her.

"Why?" She asked firmly, not that she cared about what he thought but she didn't want to push away her new ally when he could be a useful help to her.

"I don't know but I just want to know." He said with a serious look.

"What if I get your help in exchange for knowledge to fill your curiosity?" She asked a a blank look and Cha Eun was left more puzzled by the intriguing girl.

"My help?" He asked, wondering what she could possibly want from him and he thought it was money at first but looking at her eyes that were filled with dangerous motives, he knew there was more to what the eyes saw.

"I'll tell you when I need your help but for now, you'll be in the dark." She said and before he could say another word, she ran off leaving him speechless.

Yoo Na finally arrived at the lake that seemed to take forever but she did anyway. She searched as thoroughly as she could but she could find absolutely nothing worth evidential. She let out a deep sigh in frustration as she sat on the floor in front of the lake, she watched the gentle lake below the beautiful sunset and memories of Bae Ra started flooding in her head as she closed her eyes and she could still see her beautiful smile and her bright eyes looking at her vividly.

.....

Min Hye was seated at her work desk still a bit angry at Dae Hyun but she was more angry at the fact that he didn't even bother to apologise or at least talk to her, but her thoughts were interrupted when the elevator made a chiming sound and she raised her head upward to meet two police officers marching out of the elevator.

"We're here to speak with Mr Jang." One of the police officers said and his serious expression told her that it was more serious than the last questioning.

"Hold on please." She said with a stoic expression as she entered Dae Hyun's office and whispered slightly to him.

"The police are here and it looks serious." She warned with a worried expression but Dae Hyun wasn't in the bit flustered because there was no strong evidence to incriminate him of any crime.

"Let them in." He said with a calm expression and she did silently and left them to their questioning.

"You can sit." Dae Hyun said calmly to the officers who just stood opposite him as they peered their eyes suspiciously at him.

"Mr Jang, where were you the night Miss Ha Na was last seen?" One of the inspectors asked with a stern look.

"You have to be specific." He said with an expressionless face, not in the least fazed by the officers threatening looks.

"A witness reported that Ha Na texted to her that she was with you, the night before she disappeared or was killed." The officer said and Dae Hyun's brows creased.

"So? I only gave her a lift home because she had a flat tire which I'm very sure was reported in her file." Dae Hyun said with a serious look on his face.

"But why didn't you mention giving her a lift to the police in case you might have seen someone suspicious in the area?" The officers questioned and Dae Hyun was already getting annoyed with their silly questions and wanted nothing more than shoving them out of the office but he had to be as cooperative as possible to avoid suspicions.

"I didn't really take notice of anyone at the area or I'd have dropped a statement at the station." He said with an innocent, believing look on his face.

"Don't you think it's a bit weird that you're the last person to see both of your workers that were victims of the serial killer before they died?" One of the police officers asked In a suspicious manner.

"There's no evidence that backs up your words or are you trying to incriminate me with crazy murders because you think I was the last person with them, so that makes me the culprit right?" He asked with a grim look on his face.

"No! We're not trying to frame you or anything like that." The officers said, realizing that he could probably not be the last person to have seen them and it could have been a coincidence that he was with them because his eyes held so much sincerity in them and he didn't seem intimidated by them either, instead he seemed like an innocent man framed for murder at that moment.

"How do you expect to catch the real culprit when you're busy pointing fingers at innocent people because of a hunch?" Dae Hyun said with a concerned expression.

"I'm sorry sir for disturbing you but we just wanted to do our work by investigating the case." The officer said and he gave out an exasperated sigh as he pinched between his brows.

"It's okay, but could you tell me who Ha Na texted?" Dae Hyun asked trying to hide his eagerness to know who the person that he would fuck up was.

"Ahh..I'm not sure we can disclose that since it's a personal statement." The officers said and Dae Hyun rolled his eyes inwardly, 'personal statement my fucking ass' he thought inwardly.

"I'm just curious that's all." He said with a charming smile and both the officers exchanged glances, thinking there was no harm in giving him the information.

"It's a female employee, So Ra." The police officer said and Dae Hyun's eyes darkened but it immediately changed to a serene look.

"Ahh..I see." Was all he said.

"Then, we'll go now." The officers said as they walked themselves out of the office.

"Is everything all right?" Min Hye asked as she rushed in as soon as the officers left.

"Everything is perfectly fine." Dae Hyun said as a dark grin crept to his lips.

"What did they say?" Min Hye asked because she recognized that dark smile of his and something dark happened when he looked like that.

"It seems So Ra went to blab to the police that I saw Ha Na last, I hate blabbermouths." He said with an irritated tone and she was glad that it wasn't anything serious but she guessed Dae Hyun was one to hold a grudge and So Ra was definitely going to die in his hands.

"Don't do anything rash okay?" Min Hye said, slightly worried that he might refrain from laying low and kill So Ra immediately but a sarcastic smirk curved up on his lips.

"When have I ever acted rash?" He asked rhetorically and she knew he was right because he always seemed so calculative with everything he did, even with his emotions.

"Alright." She said with a low voice and was about to leave but Dae Hyun's deep voice halted her in her steps.

"I'm sorry about earlier, you're not still upset with me, right?" He said apologetically and she turned around to stare at his sincere grey eyes that she couldn't help, but no longer be mad at him.

"No, just promise me that you'll be safe." She said with genuine concern, and he wasn't expecting her reply as always but he smiled at her words.

"Of course." He said and a grin was plastered on his face as he watched her with wicked thoughts running through his mind.
