The Novel's Shadow

After dying, I opened my eyes to a new world, the world of a novel. With a new identity of a side character called Keith Devans, I will work in the shadows and help the protagonist whenever it is needed. Even with such a dream, the world of the novel is still dangerous for a side character like me so using the knowledge of the novel and obtaining some skills and talents I will become one of the strongest. Or so I hoped.

Appraisal Shop (1)

6 days have passed after passing out during our first day of training, but the following training days were actually pretty easy compared to that crazy training session.

I wasn't being thrown around... as much, but it is still better than almost being killed.

My mana control has increased a little bit compared to before and I'm now able to control 6 knives without having my brain feel like exploding.

I decided to skip training today because I received a call from Frank saying everything was done.

I arrived pretty early in the morning and Frank was there waiting in the front.

Even from here, I could already see great improvement in the store.

The previous sign that was hanging there by a miracle was now gone and there was a new sign that said [Truth]. I could also see that there were some brand new doors with a new system to open them.

After arriving, Frank gave me a small tour of the place. The first floor which was now empty was extremely clean and the walls looked brand new.

The second floor was now an almost futuristic home, there was a new tv, new furniture, a new kitchen, and a new bedroom with a huge bed.

The third floor was now the library and instead of the worn-down bookshelves it now had the shiniest bookshelves I have ever seen in my life and the fourth floor was now fixed up just like the first floor.

Frank then gave me an access code for the brand new doors that were installed and left.

I stretched my arms and thought about how much work I would be doing but I could probably live with only doing it once a year.

The reason why appraisals are so expensive is because they are the only way of knowing what traits your weapons have. Currently, the price for an A+ appraisal is around 10 million to 12 million.

So the price for my appraisals could be based on that so.

15 million for S- ranked appraisals, 20 million for S ranked appraisals, and 25 million for S+ appraisals. With just 5 million a family could live in district 2 without any complaints, so 25 million for an appraisal could bring in a lot of cash.

While I don't really need anything to do appraisals, I still wanted to look professional so I'm able to impress my customers. I didn't just want them to come in and see an empty room.

Now, that I think about it I could have just added the appraisal room to the requests in the remodeling of the place but I was too focused on other things to even think about that.

So with great shame, I called Frank, I discussed and told him how I forgot about the room and stuff, he laughed a little but accepted the request.

He came back a few seconds later as he had just been here and told me he could probably get it done in an hour, and it would cost me 2 million which I paid.

I decided to leave so he could work in peace and went to Ray's branch, he already noticed my stare and before I could say anything, he stood up and headed upstairs.

He sat down in his chair and I sat on my chair as usual.

"So what do you want now?"

"The store is gonna be finished soon, you see"

"So you want me to post the ad now?"

I put on a big smile and said "Yeah, but that is not the only reason as to why I came here today"

"Spit it out", He said in an annoyed voice.

"Can you get me a teleportation skill for long distances?"

Ray put on a serious expression and said, "No"

Well, I knew he could, he had access to the black market so he should be able to get one.

That's why I put on a big smug face and said, "I know you can get it, I will be making you so rich soon with the stocks and [Elegante], so shouldn't I get something more"

Well if we were being completely real, apart from the black market, finding any grimoires with skills would be so hard that it wouldn't actually be possible.

Before he could say anything, I pulled out the grimoire for accuracy and gave it to him.

While many would believe that the book of accuracy was not valuable it in fact was extremely valuable you see.

For archers, accuracy will increase the damage of their arrows, making them stronger, so such books were actually important for the many archers in this world, it was something relating to their talent but the author didn't really explain anything more.

Ray's eyes soon lit up but still decided to not take it as it was still not enough.

Sigh

"I will give you, this mysterious orb, how about it?", I said jokingly

"What does it do?"

"It increases the growth of plants"

Suddenly Ray's eyes widened and his jaw dropped.

"How did you get such a valuable item?", He said.

"Valuable?", I said in a confused tone, to which Ray responded with a look of unbelief.

"Do you know how much an alchemist would pay for such an item?"

"No?"

"100 billion, no even more than that, that's how important that item is"

Huh? While I do get that increasing the growth of plants could be important to alchemists I didn't really think they would be this valuable.

I then put on a serious expression and said, "50,50", and Ray without thinking about it twice grabbed the orb and the book.

I then explained to him how the orb worked and told him to post the ad now, as the store would be finished soon enough, and he did. He seemed too mesmerized by the orb so I just left.

I never really expected the orb to be that valuable but considering alchemist now, it wouldn't surprise me if an alchemist desired these types of items.

I then went to check the website waiting list and even though only 2 minutes passed since the ad was posted, there were already 100 requests. Just goes to show how connected this greedy bastard is.

Well too bad for them, I'm only doing one appraisal per day so that's too bad for them.

I decided to go to the cafe around the corner and wait for Frank to call. I didn't have to wait long as Frank called me some moments later.

I returned to the store and it looked exactly like I wanted.

There was a table near the center of the room and three old chairs right in front of it. The table had multiple tools like microscopes and more.

There was a small table next to the back wall that had a coffee machine and a lot of products.

There were some paintings on the walls but I didn't really care about them, overall it looked like the house of a detective.

I said bye to Frank and accepted the first request for the appraisal on the website.

I went to brew some coffee and before it was even finished, I heard the ring from the door.

"Hello is anybody there?", A male voice said.

Before answering I immediately changed clothes to a white suit as I was in my training clothes.

Then I went and opened the door.

To my surprise there were 5 bodyguards and a female in a blue dress named, [Lucia Vsay], she had beautiful light blue colored hair and red eyes. While her appearance was indeed quite eye-catching what caught my attention the most was her name.

[Lucia Vssy], the rank 1 hunter.

...

Today was the day Ray told me that a new appraiser would appear that can appraise S+ grade items would appear, that's why I have 20 of my butlers and bodyguards currently waiting for the ad and instantly applying to the list.

As I'm the number one hunter, I always get assigned, the most terrifying dungeons to clear which always give me rewards that were graded higher than A+.

Not only did the old men appraisers fail to analyze but some even lied to me about them.

It was then that Ray called me about a 17-year-old kid that could appraise items all the way to the S+. I cannot miss the chance to not only make a connection with him but also to get many of my items appraised.

"It's out!", one of my butlers screamed and soon everyone made a request in the queue.

I turned around and said, "Spots now"

"Spot number 1"

"2"

"3"

"12"

"14"

...

And they all continued saying their spots, thankfully we had gotten the 3 first spots so that was enough.

Now it was a waiting game and 40 minutes later one of my butlers said that he was just granted the request to meet so together with 5 of my bodyguards, we headed to the store.

It was only a matter of minutes for us to arrive at the store.

One of my bodyguards then knocked on the door and there was no response.

It was only after 2 minutes that the door finally opened, and a small kid with white hair and red eyes appeared in front of me. His suit seemed as white as his hair and his big beret hat stood out a little.

He then nodded his head little head.

"Please come inside", He said in a calming voice.
