Unfair

Bella Aveline, 27 years old, the adopted daughter of Grace and Billy, had received files on crime cases in the City of CatWell, long before her departure. She thoroughly examined the types, methods and motives of the crimes, down to the individuals who were allegedly the perpetrators and the masterminds of the series of cases. Bella had worked out the diagram well. She also knows where to start her work.

"She really is a terrible female prosecutor as rumor has it. She just arrived today and hasn't even stepped into our office, but she's already caught a criminal. That's ridiculous," Gabby, a clerk at the Catwell City district attorney's office, babbled.

John, a co-worker who was sitting beside her, also stood up, observing Bella who was walking towards the chief prosecutor's office. "She must be showing off. She wants to be seen like that, so we don't underestimate her. Tch, she is just a baby cat, but she acts like she can do all kinds of things."

"Just say you're jealous. You've been in this office for so long, but you can only solve small cases. Tsk, tsk, tsk, it’s no wonder your position doesn’t go up and down,” Gabby sneered.

John suddenly glared. “You... how about you? How many cases of tax evasion have you found? You also only dare to catch small traders. What’s the difference between me and you?”

“I’m still in an investigation. You know, finding evidence of embezzlement of funds from large companies is not easy. I’m still young. I don’t want to die before marriage,” Gabby replied, annoyed.

“Can’t you guys stop fussing even for a day?” Kim interrupted. He stood between Gabby and John, resting his arm on the work table rail and looking out the chief prosecutor’s office door. “Bella, she’s finally arrived in this damn town.”

“Do you know her?” Gabby and John asked together.

“I worked on a crime case with her when I was a lawyer. She’s a great woman. Not only smart, but also martial and multi-skilled. Billyard, bowling, golf, piano, cooking. I’m not sure if there’s anything that she can’t do. She also has a beautiful face. The perfect woman,” Kim explained.

“Do you like her?” Gabby asked softly.

Kim was taken aback by the question. “Hey, is that too obvious? Ah, I’ve admired her for a long time. But too bad, she is hard to approach.”

“Does she have a boyfriend?” asked John curiously.

“No. I’m sure she’s still alone. Because every man who tries to get close to her always ends up battered.”

“Why?” Gabby asked. “Does she have a phobia of men?”

“I don’t know. Maybe because she knew that the man who approached her had bad intentions or a rotten heart. She had a strong feeling. You know,” Kim explained.

“So you don’t dare to approach her because you have bad intentions?” quipped John.

“W-why do you think like that? I’m a nice guy. It’s fine. I just… I don’t have the courage to approach her. Are you satisfied now?” Kim returned to his desk annoyed.

“Why is he angry?” Gabby wondered.

Not far from the debate, in the chief prosecutor’s room, Bella sat facing the owner of the room, Ludwig. She looked at the man confidently, even though Ludwig looked down on her. Silently, Bella wondered, would it be alright if she gave one hard smack to those pouting lips?

“Did you feel proud after catching Jofran without consulting me?” he asked. “Do you have proof?”

“I ....”

“What about the witness? Are you sure they are telling the truth?” asked Ludwig with his eyes focused on reading the newspaper spread out in front of him.

“I studied this case after the transfer notice arrived on my desk. I have also collected evidence and several confessions from former employees of the Oximell Company,” explained Bella.

Ludwig folded up his newspaper. “How did you find that evidence if I haven’t give you the search warrant?”

“I ....”

“Did you break into their database?”

Bella fell silent.

“You know very well that evidence of data theft will be deemed invalid. Release him before the owner of Oximell goes to the police and report false accusations and objectionable behavior,” Ludwig ordered.

“But sir.”

“Apologize to him and let him go! If you want to keep working here, then just do as I say. I don’t want to hire someone who will tarnish the image of this office.” Ludwig put the newspaper down on the table. Be indifferent to Bella.

Bella left Ludwig’s room with a bright red face. She growled before walking off carrying her anger into the interrogation room. Bella stopped there for a moment, took a deep breath and let it out slowly, like someone who had finished her martial arts training.

She knew this was unfair. However, as a new employee, Bella will accept it reluctantly and promise herself that she will catch Jofran again in a better way.

“Oh, damn! Looks like I’ll be fighting alone in this city,” Bella complained.

Bella lowered the doorknob. Jofran was still sitting in the dim room with his lawyer. Smiling broadly, as if knowing the purpose of Bella’s arrival. Once again, Bella took a deep breath before continuing and standing in front of Jofran.

“I apologize profusely for this misunderstanding,” Bella said as she bowed.

“I am sorry? Hey, after beating me up, is this all you can say to me?” snapped Jofran.

“Please be patient, sir,” prevented Jofran’s lawyer.

“I will pay for the medical expenses. Once again, please forgive me,” Bella said again.

“Wow, that’s really unbelievable. This city will be destroyed if there is a prosecutor like you. Just play catch like that.”

Bella was furious. She wanted so badly to punch Jofran’s mouth until some of his teeth fell out.

“Get on your knees!” Jofran orders suddenly.

“Sir, that’s a little outrageous,” said Jofran’s lawyer.

“Stay out of my way! She had already beaten me up at the hotel. That’s the proper way to apologize, isn’t it?”

“Should I do a sexual harassment report for you?” Bella asked firmly.

“What did you say?”

“There are many CCTV cameras recording what you did to me in the hotel and club. Would you mind?” Bella threatened.

“You bitch!” Jofran tried to reach Bella’s body, but his lawyer managed to hold him back.

“Sir, please restrain yourself. Let’s go!” invited Jofran’s lawyer.

“You will pay for this. Watch out!” snapped Jofran before leaving the interrogation room.

After throwing away her pride in front of Jofran, Bella’s legs felt weak. She could not believe her actions would be questioned. Even blamed. Bella felt that everything was in accordance with the existing law, except for the stolen documents.

“You’ll see! I’ll catch that bastard and drag him to jail!” she swears.
