The Battlefield

Daniel appeared in a large outdoor space. The environment seemed to be a desert plain with some large boulders scattered across the ground. The sandy floor was covered in discarded gear. There were swords, spears, armor, and all kinds of battle equipment just laying unused. From what Daniel could tell, the weapons were very old. They had rust coating the metal, and from his observation he could see that the weapons hadn't been moved in years.

Scanning his surroundings, Daniel decided to jog to the nearest boulder to find some cover. Once situated and feeling a bit more secure, he decided that it was time to figure out how he merged together with the nanobots and program.

Pulling the program up in his mind, he first questioned how he came to be in this future world and why he merged with the nanobots.

[The Patient was pulled into a gravitational quantum explosion, causing an unquantifiable anomaly to occur. The patients body was highly damaged and filled with nanobots. Through an unknown incident, the patients body was altered on a molecular level. The patients body in an attempt to survive evolved into a nanobot like existence.]

Daniel understood most of what the program told him. However, he did not understand what it meant by 'nanobot like existence'.

[The Patient's cells and organs evolved in a way that mimics the functions of nanobots. The Patient has no artificially created nanobots in the body. The Patient is a nanobot.]

This was a magical explanation. Daniel could believe that the nanobots could have crossed over with him, but he found it insane that his body evolved into a nanobot. His cells and organs could act as nanobots. Daniel wondered what abilities this evolution granted him.

[The Patient can survive most mortal wounds. As long as more than 75% of the body is not destroyed at one time, then the nano-cells can heal the wounds. Destruction of the brain will lead to death.]

[The Nano-cells can store and utilize all kinds of energy for strengthening and evolving the Patients body.]

[For more abilities, additional information and testing will be needed.]

These abilities will really help him become stronger and survive in the future. He was excited to start testing these functions and wanted to run some test on his body. However, he knew that this was not the time nor the place to open up an experiment.

Daniel exited the soul program and checked out his surroundings. Everything was quiet. As he was paying more attention to this fact, he noticed that there were no sounds at all. Not even bugs or birds making noise. This seemed like a bad sign to him.

All of a sudden, he heard a loud roar coming from the other side of the boulder. It sounded like nothing he's ever heard of before. Daniel was no expert on animal roars, but just from the noise that creature made he knew it was not apart of the earth animal kingdom.

Slowly, while trying not to make any noise, Daniel walked around the edge of the boulder, trying to get a look at the creature. As his head turned the corner, he saw it standing about 50 feet away. The creature was tall, standing in around 7 1/2 feet in height. Its's frame was also bulky, clearly having immense strength. The creature had the face of a rhino and the body of a gorilla. What really made it stand out were the long and sharp tusks that extended out of its mouth. It looked like the horrible lovechild of a rhino, gorilla, and walrus.

Daniel decided that he would name this new species a Walnorilla. The walnorilla was walking around sniffing the air, seeming to be looking for something.

Daniel went through his options. He could run away and hope to hide for the whole trial. He would pass, but he would obviously get the lowest score. Another option, would be to charge out and fight the beast head-on. Most likely, he would be swatted away like a bug. Vetoing those ideas, Daniel decided that he would have to play this smart, if you wanted to kill the beast. Taking his time to think, he came up with a viable plan that had a high chance of success.

The walnorilla was walking around searching for some food when a rock abruptly hit it on the back of its head. It roared in anger and turned its head to search for the prey who dared to attack it. Seeing nothing but a big boulder, it decided to walk slowly towards it. When it reached the edge of the boulder, it sprang to the other side intending to pounce and kill the hiding animal. However, there was nothing on this side of the boulder as well. The walnorilla was feeling confused. It knew that it was attacked, but it couldn't find the animal anywhere. It started to slowly sniff the air, when another rock came and hit it on the top of its head. It turned its head up in the direction of where the rock came from only to see an ugly creature with a long claw falling from the sky. The creature could only watch as the claw pierced through its eye. An intense pain caused the walnorilla to wail in agony. The cry didn't last long as it fell to the ground dead.

For Daniel, this hunt was simple and exciting. His plan was to draw the walnorilla in, find the high ground, then target the weak point with his blade. The plan was executed perfectly. He was able to climb the boulder, then use small rocks to draw its attention. Lastly, he used one last rock so that the walnorilla would reveal its eyes for an easy strike.

Daniel pulled his sword out of the dead creature, and wiped the blood onto the ground. He looked at the corpse and wondered if there was any benefits he could gain. He message popped into his mind.

[Patient is around viable energy. Absorb?]

He thought, 'Yes' and then saw his right index finger start to stretch and extend towards the corpse. It punctured the creature and started to devour it. The walnorilla's body started to deflate as the blood was sucked dry from it. Once the creature was reduced to dust, his finger retracted and returned to its normal state.

[Energy has been absorbed. Does Patient want to enhance body?]

Daniel was curious so he said, 'Yes'.

Looking over his options, Daniel was very pleased. He could develop his body and mind through the killing and plundering of creatures. This was an insane ability.

Looking through his options, Daniel decided to enhance his agility by 0.1. He felt that in his current situation it would give him the best opportunity to survive. It would be nice to be able to increase his intelligence once again, but it would not help much in his upcoming battles.

Giving the command, Daniel felt a warm stream of energy spread to his muscles, bones, and organs. As soon as the sensation came, it was gone. Daniel jumped from each foot, testing his new speed. He felt a lot lighter and wondered what it would be like once his stats reached 2 or higher.

His body was overall quicker and faster. Not just his running and dodging, but his speed in handling the sword increased as well. Daniel felt that he was ready to try and hunt some more beasts. He sheaved his sword, and started walking towards a boulder in the distance. His speed was still slow and careful, but he carried himself with a newfound confidence that wasn't there before. Daniel knew that he was still weak, but with his abilities it wouldn't take long for him to develop.

As he reached the next boulder he caught sight of two walnorillas fighting each other. Both had major wounds on their bodies. Daniel searched the area around the fight and caught a glimpse of a flower with a crystal pearl in the middle. It seemed that these two were fighting over this unique flower.

As the fight continued, Daniel made some plans. He wasn't going to let these beast's get the flower. No matter if it was useless to him, these beasts bodies were more than enough to make him act.

The two beasts rammed into each other. The horn of one of the beasts pierced the heart of the other. The dying walnorilla cried out in sorrow as it fell limp onto the ground. The victor of the battle dislodged its horn from the dead competitor and roared towards the sky in triumph.

At that moment, Daniel raced out from behind the boulder and sprinted towards the walnorilla. He covered the distance unnoticed by the celebrating beast. With a quick slash, his sword sliced through the creatures achilles making the leg useless. Daniel then retreated to a safe distance. He didn't directly go for the killing blow because he couldn't reach the neck or eyes and wasn't sure if he could pierce the thick chest muscles to the heart in one blow.

The walnorilla limped toward Daniel, roaring in anger. It couldn't put much weight on its injured leg, so its speed was fairly slow.

Daniel circled the creature. He found his opening and attacked towards the good leg. When his blade hit, the ligament was easily sliced through once again. Unfortunately, the walnorilla counterattacked quicker than Daniel thought possible. While he was retreating he took a claw to his stomach. Four deep wounds appeared, causing him to grunt in pain. It felt like it organs would soon fall out of his stomach.

Daniel had never been in a battle before, but he knew that if he lost concentration and let the pain get to him he would soon find himself dead. He gritted his teeth and gained some space from the creature. Looking at his stomach, he was shocked to find the wounds healing at a visible speed. The once deep wounds were now four scratch's. With his wounds healed, Daniel charged into battle once more. He dodged a swipe from the now immobile creature. His counter-attack came fast and hit its armpit making the arm useless.

Now, with the creature practically defenseless, Daniel was able to finish the battle quickly. It only took two stabs with his sword to pierce the walnorilla's heart. It made one last attempt to pierce Daniel with its horn, which he dodged easily. The creature's body slowly lost its power and fell dead at Daniel's feet.

Daniel was breathing heavy trying to catch his breath. He was shocked at what he was able to accomplish. Seeing the dead creatures laying at his feet, he felt completely alive. He triumphed over his foes and proved himself to be superior. Now he got to revel in the spoils of victory.

He looked towards the two corpses and the flower and couldn't help but smile.
