The Mutant Siren

Humans seem simple. Mutants seem complicated. To humans, mutants are like gods. To mutants, humans don't understand the responsibility of power. In a world where half of the global population is made up of mutants, a myth becomes reality. One that has been passed down through the generations of mankind, human and mutant alike. It's always the most simple things that are complicated. (Revised Edition) (The universe in this book will be the basis of stories to come. There are sectors of mutants within themselves, like vampires, elementals and such. However, I don't wish to cram it all into one book. Hence this book hopes to explore mutants as a whole, and in particular, this myth that has become reality.)

Works like a Charm...

"Haala?! What.... What is this!"

Lee looked at her with a mixture of emotions. He couldn't believe this girl he'd known, or thought he knew, was standing here. In some kind of tribal gear. Surrounded by this weird energy that surely didn't feel like mutant powers. He didn't know what to feel. He was more surprised than anything, but it was so weird.

"This? This is Haala. You remember her, right?", came a voice from the doorway. Lee and Neo had been so shocked the movement left their bodies. That voice helped them snap back to reality.

They turned around and looked at the source of the voice. "Hannah?", they both mouthed. Hannah strode into the room as 'Haala' dropped the red energy.

"Yes, me. I believe we can truly introduce ourselves to one another, right Alana?"

The brothers watched in dismay as Alana swapped back to her normal form.

Neo was the most inquisitive of the two of them, so naturally he asked, "Wait... You're a shifter... Right?".

"Yep. Boss lady assigned me to you guys after that Gold bitch got on your radar."

"Assigned?!", Lee interrupted. "Like some mission or something? Dude we were colleagues! Why couldn't you just say something?".

Lee's naivety was one thing, but at times it was painfully stupid. Alana rolled her eyes as she stepped forward towards him and kneed him in the stomach. Lee looked up in surprise and tried to blast her with a magnetic pulse, to no avail. All of a sudden, he felt the magnetism in his blood just stop. He couldn't feel the metal in the room. Neo tried to aim a 'quake' as well but he could no longer feel the vibrations around him. She'd totally cut their powers off.

"What have you done?!", Neo yelled at the top of his lungs. "Put our powers back!"

Hannah walked closer to them, somewhat savouring their confusion. She nodded to Alana to let them go. The girl released her hold on them, then Hannah explained further.

"I assigned Alana to you boys because Gold Inc was eying your racing team. And not for good purposes. Alana was picked cuz she's the best. Shifters can get anywhere."

"Yeah and ruin things!", Lee added with an exaggerated eye roll. Hannah tackled him to the ground, pinning him in his chest with her knee. She levelled a glare that could have cut the ground open. She thought Lee had good potential, but he was such an airhead. However, he couldn't really be blamed as he had never seen this side of life before. But life was moving fast, so one had to move faster.

That meant no room for airheads as well.

"Alana, show him what would have happened if we hadn't intervened", she ordered. "Show him who would have gotten popped off instead."

"You got it."

Alana proceeded to fling a small red orb at his head. No sooner had it landed, but a painful sequence of visions zipped through his brain. Images of either him or his brother laying lifeless in the meeting room presented themselves as if it were real. The visions ceased, leaving Lee wide eyed and speechless.

"Why... Why didn't you say-"

Hannah jammed his mouth shut with her fingers. "Would it kill you to think with the head on your shoulders? Secret means no telling anyone anything!".

She released him from her hold and rose to her feet. "Take him to Daken. Needs to get that magnetism under wraps otherwise he could rase a whole block by accident."

Alana nodded and helped Lee to his feet. Hannah turned to Neo who looked ready to fight a war after seeing what she did to his brother.

"What's wrong? Don't like seeing your bro getting a taste of reality?"

She walked around him, taunting and sneering at him. Neo had enough. No more games. No more half truths. No more sorcery or whatever Alana was doing. Just him and her. Bare knuckles.

"Think I'm a pushover, Hannah? I get you wanted to help us, but a lil heads up next time?"

He launched a shockwave at the same time Hannah emitted a sound wave....

The two waves collided in midair. Nothing but the deafening sound of 2 frequencies as they crashed.
