Chapter 17 Contact on the Spot

Dr. Richardson glanced at Charles unpleasantly and said, "Who is this ignorant young man from? How dare he show off in front of me."

"Eh? Are you Charles?" The young man next to Dr. Richardson, named Leo West, seemed surprised.

He and Charles had both enrolled in the prestigious Medical University in Starbain. 

The two of them applied for the same major, so they had some interactions.

During their final year, it became widely known that Charles had committed academic paper fraud, and Leo was aware of it too.

"Leo, do you know each other?" Dr. Richardson furrowed his brow and asked.

Leo smirked mockingly and replied, "Dr. Richardson, he's the guy I mentioned to you earlier—the one who fabricated his academic paper."

"Academic paper fraud?" Dr. Richardson vaguely remembered the incident, which fueled his dissatisfaction.

"How can someone like him have the audacity to criticize me? It's utterly ridiculous!"

Other Thompson family members also openly displayed their disdainful expressions.

If it were in the past, Charles would have argued fiercely, but it often ended with people disliking him even more.

Now, instead of defending himself, Charles calmly asked, "What does my research paper fraud have to do with the prescription you've written?"

"Then there must be a connection!" Dr. Richardson coldly snorted. "A little brat like you, capable of fabricating medical research papers. Who knows if you would fabricate prescriptions in the future?"

Evelyn was the only one who knew that Charles had been falsely accused.

But even if she explained, no one would listen.

Hank wanted to drive Charles away, but Evelyn suddenly stood in front of him and said, "Hank, Charles is right. This combination of medicinal herbs is quite ordinary!"

"What do you know? Dr. Richardson is a leading figure in the Zeacam Land's traditional medicine community!"

The term "leading figure" made Charles burst into laughter on the spot.

His laughter carried a mocking tone, causing Dr. Richardson to grow furious. "What are you laughing at?!"

"I'm laughing at how you're tarnishing the name of the leading figure in Zeacam Land's traditional medicine!"

Charles suddenly changed his indifferent attitude and appeared more serious.

"The title of 'leading figure in Zeacam Land's traditional medicine' is one that even Joseph Green wouldn't dare claim. What are you compared to him?"

When Joseph's name was mentioned, Dr. Richardson's expression suddenly changed, and he asked, "Do you know Joseph Green?"

"Dr. Richardson, he was just released from prison. How could he possibly know Dr. Green? It must be an intentional deception!"

"He... Had he been imprisoned?!"

Linda couldn't believe her eyes as she stared at Charles, then turned to Evelyn and questioned, "Who are these friends you associate with?"

"That's right, Evelyn, your grandfather values you the most. You must not disappoint him!" Hank advised Evelyn.

"You're not allowed to speak ill of him!" Evelyn wouldn't allow others to humiliate Charles.

She was about to speak up in Charles's defense when he suddenly reminded her, "Give me your phone."

"Phone...? Oh, okay!"

Evelyn immediately took out her phone and handed it over.

"Who are you planning to call? Don't tell me it's Dr. Green?" Leo mocked from the side.

Unexpectedly, Charles nodded lightly and said, "That's right, I'm calling him."

When he left the hospital last time, Charles had noted down Dr. Green's phone number.

After a few rings without an answer, he assumed Dr. Green might be in a meeting or seeing patients.

After all, the dean of the Central Hospital was quite busy.

"No one answered the phone? And then you would say Dr. Green was too busy to talk, right? All right, it's not embarrassing to not know him. After all, his status is not something you can reach." 

Leo's sarcasm was even stronger, and the Thompson family joined in to watch the show.

They wanted to see how this guy would be embarrassed.

Even Evelyn was anxiously asking, "Charles, was the number you just dialed really Dr. Green's?" 

Dr. Green's medical skills were well-known throughout the country, but not just anyone could have the opportunity to see him.

Evelyn had previously wanted to pay a high price for him to come forward, but unfortunately, he always refused because he was too busy. 

In fact, everyone knew that Dr. Green just didn't want to get involved in anything unsavory.

Looking at the ridicule on everyone's faces and the worry on Evelyn's face, Charles smiled and replied, "Even if Dr. Green doesn't have time, I can still take care of the elder's medical needs."

"Just you? Well, are you going to quit the 3,000 dollars a month's nurse's aide job and come here to cheat?" 

Leo knew so much about Charles because he joined the university group, where all the recent graduates from his department were.

Charles' academic paper fraud scandal had caused a huge stir.

So until now, Charles was still their favorite topic.

"Don't pretend. Who in the school doesn't know your current situation? If I were you, I would have left here a long time ago!"

As soon as Leo finished speaking, the phone suddenly rang!

Everyone began to look at each other in confusion.

After a moment of silence, Evelyn picked up the phone and looked at the caller ID.

It turned out to be the number Charles had just dialed.

"Should I answer it?" Evelyn asked cautiously.

"Of course, you should answer. How else can we prove that he was lying?!"

Leo snatched the phone and answered it, sneering, "Who is that?"

There was silence on the other end of the phone for a few seconds before the person asked in return, "You called me, but now you're asking who I am?"

The old voice surprised Leo.

"Are you going to say that you are Joseph Green?"

Leo's teasing tone made Dr. Green on the other end of the phone uncomfortable. 

He felt that he might be maliciously harassed and was about to hang up.

"Dr. Green, don't hang up."

Charles' voice suddenly came into Dr. Green's ear.

He was a little surprised at first, then showed a pleasantly surprised expression and said, "Is this Charles?"

Because the phone speaker was on, Leo and the Thompson family suspected that this was all planned in advance by the two of them.

It was actually Dr. Richardson who remained silent all along.

He always felt that this voice sounded familiar.

"Charles, last time you asked me to help investigate the academic paper fraud case, I have some clues now."

As soon as these words came out, the scene became even more silent.

Charles quickly stopped Dr. Green from continuing and told him everything that had happened on the scene.

"Don't they believe that I'm Joseph Green? Interesting. Tell me what Dr. Richardson's name is?"

Charles turned to Dr. Richardson and said, "There you go, Dr. Green is asking you the question."

The latter subconsciously swallowed his saliva, and cold sweat poured down his forehead like a waterfall.

He finally recognized the owner of this voice. It seemed to be exactly Joseph Green!
